I suppose we will have to do it at some stage. A boards dive/beer. Preferably not at the same time :D I just want to gauge the level of interest. My own preference would be an off shore diver with scubadive west which works out at €69 (incl 2 dives & tanks) but gear rental is extra. However I'd imagine a lot of you are on the east coast. So post suggestions if interested.

Yeah I'd be up for it, been meaning to visit there again for while now.

It's all dependent on the usual though, money, timing, transport etc..

    Its a mighty idea IMO.

SCW is acceptable to myself but i'd rather get down to Baltimore once this season to get dives in on the U260 and Kowloon Bridge.

Its just a suggestion though and i am flexible in regards to time a place.

The Kowloon bridge would be cool be can be difficult to get the right weather to dive. We travelled all the way from Galway before (long bloody drive) only to be told we couldn't dive. Whats the U260?

Well....its a U boat. Its one of the more popular divesites in Baltimore. A prety much intact uboat lieing in 46m to the hatches which are still open.

http://www.aquaventures.ie has a better description of the dive sites.

I'd love a weekends diving, SCW sounds good. You can get a bus from Busarus in Dublin to Galway, and then on to LetterFrack with Bus Eireann for those of us who haven't a car. Accomadation is cheap in the area too and theres some rock-climbing on the fjord as well.*cough*

Check this out could be a future trip.

There's a dive center in Douglas who I'm waiting to hear back from to see what services (phwoar!) they offer.

Thats a cool site Peace. I'd be extremely interested in a wreck dive. When we tried to dive the Kowloon we used the dive centre at the end of the peer in Baltimore. I would highly recommend NOT using this dive centre. They really fúcked us around and were very unprofessional.

Anyway I suggest we leave it a while to gauge the level of interest and then we can a pole for date/place to dive.

How about NOT making the first boards dive a 46m wreck penetration.

That way we might bring everyone back for a second boards dive.

    Just a thought.

    Indeed, point taken.

As there may be a pint or perhaps two then maybe the dives should be in the 25/30 range.

Killary is a good spot to go for the weekend, the lads there usually have their sh*t together...and never complained when we fell onto the boat dying of hangovers and barely able stand.

Daveg, Thats not the first time thats been said to me regarding the dive op in baltimore. However its now the only one as the other guy closed up shop to become and airline pilot. Doesn't leave much bargaining strength for the average Joe.

Very good point. I think scubadive west would be the best idea then if everyone is in agreement. I'll be driving from Galway so I could take another 3/4 with me. I'll give this thread a few more weeks to see if we have anyone else interested.

Okay folks, I'm suggesting the weekend of September the 13th/14th for our first dive. Who's on for it?

Oh, and I suggest be Scuba Dive West too.

I don't think I'll be able to make the whole weekend but I'll def try and get up for a days diving if the interest is there and we go ahead.

Can't do it that weekend, unfortunately I have to go all the way to the Caribbean for two weeks of diving in clear warm waters.

It's a tough life, really it is

I'm presuming we don't want led dives. I'll leave the date as it stand for a couple of days before deciding to change it.

I hope everyone else enjoys their diving holidays in the sun, I really really do.

    Bastards :p

I'd love to do it, but I've never been scuba diving before. Is there a beginner's introduction or anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,683 ✭✭✭daveg

k.oriordan you would have to do the open water minimum to be able to take part in the diving. Please review the stickies for more info.
