    um. buy a Mac...

no, seriously ... get a firewire card for your PC (make sure it is fully compatible with the iPod) - you can get PC Card firewire adaptors.

why did you buy an iPod that can't interface with your PC ? I'm puzzled.

Buy a Cardbus (PC Card) USB 2.0 Card. Such as this one

I haven't paid for it yet. just expressed an interest in the hope of resolving the conflict. really want one. standard usb transfer rate is meant to be pretty slow

Yeh it is - compared to USB 2.0
USB 1.1 is rated at 12 Mbit / sec
USB 2.0 is rated at 480 Mbit / sec - 40 times faster than USB 1.1
Firewire is 400 MBit / sec but USB 2.0 seems to be more popular these days.
Either way, I wouldn't consider using USB 1.1 to transfer anything like 15 GB

I think you'll need an optional cable to connect via usb2 (using the dock)?

I have a 30gb iPod (connected to macs) and it is seriously good. I hope you enjoy yours when you get it.

I have a 5GB iPOD with my Mac let me tell you - one seriously cool piece of Kit. If you have not ordered the inline remote control give me a shout - I have a spare with apple earphones.

    Enjoy

    tinky

When you eventually get it make sure you test it well. I had a 30g one which never worked at all. No computer would recognise it. And if you look at some of the postings on the Apple site Ithink it becomes pretty clear that there are quality issues with them.
By the way I put a critical post on the site - is it too much to expect a prestige product to work out of the box? (especially one that costs 600 euros) and I got an email from Apple telling me they had removed it as they dont allow critical posts!. Now if Microsoft were doing that can you imagine the outcry.

I actually returned mine today for a refund having waited nearly two months. To be honest I would be wary of buying Apple stuff again and I have bought a lot lately!!!
