there havent been alot of great guitar solos in the last couple of years. just want 2 know what people think is the best one(s) of the last say 4 - 5 years??????

for me it has to be audioslave - shadow on the sun. i get goosebumps every time i hear that solo. tom morello has to be one of the greatest guitarists ever.

Nice solo on Darkness's Growing On Me, Audioslave do rock tbh, Morello does own with the guitar. Shuda put up a poll tbh, cos now you'll get a huge mixture of answers

poll means work means me having to use brain, having to think about guitar solos, trying to figure out what song they were from and when, then probabaly missing really good ones which i would get slated for not havin up and still getting people saying ones that werent on the list.

    eh. too much work!

    long live laziness

I'll be here forever! So I'll keep it down to one song for each band.

Children of Bodom - Kissing the Shadows
Sonata Arctica - Picturing the Past
    Sentenced - Neverlasting
    Pantera - Avoid the Light
Morbid Angel - At One With Nothing
Black Label Society - Stoned and Drunk
Decapitated - The Eye of Horus
    Arch Enemy - Enemy Within
    The Haunted - Bloodletting

There is more, I just can't be bothered thinking at this hour in the night.

Just remembered SOAD's Soil, it's pushing on 5 years, but totally rocks!

It saddens me to say the art of guitar solos is dying, we need some more bands that can play good solos out there.

It's a shame that Metallica have basically killed their best asset (Kirk)

Really depends what you feel makes a great solo. A lot of those suggested seem to be there just because they're fast. Personally, I'd say there's more to it than that.

    I'd go for:
The Darkness - Growing On Me
Smashing Pumpkins - For Martha (from the Adore album)

I know the latter is going to be controvertial, especially given the slow nature of the song, but quite frankly, it's just a great solo!

One example of a metal solo that generates different opinions is Slayer's "Bloodlines". Some people think it is an absolutely brilliant piece of metal genius. I think its ****e. Pure opinion really.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Arpeggios From Hell, Trilogy Sweet
Steve Vai - The Riddle, For The Love Of God, Bad Horsie, Ballerina 12/24
    Stone Sour - Get Inside

Ah there's loads. Just can't think of them

I'm scared to ask who these are just from their names....

Some of those other solo's have to be more than 5 years old.

the solo in only for the weak by In Flames is rather bitching imo, especially the wee harmonised part before the "wubba-dubba" interlude. :p
