how quick can i get a passport, i just noticed my one when finished and i might be going away in a few weeks, and i need to know how quick i can get a new one

You can get your application processed within about 5 working days (I think, it might be a little longer) if you opt for the Express option but you'll pay a fair bit extra. Just ask at your local Garda station.

They'll do a turnaround in a few hours if you are prepared to go there early and queue with tickets in hand.

Otherwise using the postal service should get it back well in time if it isn't for a few weeks.

i was given 2 days notice for holidays a few years back and i had no passport. i got the form stamped at the cop shop and made my way to the passport office the morning of the day i was leaving and they had it done in a few hours. you'd need to bring tickets as proof of travelling or they will basically tell you to piss off, as the woman at the next window to me found out but she had the manners of a bullock anyway

£45 IIRC. it cost the same as getting a passport the regular way

A passport renewal is 57 euros (got mine renewed only a few weeks ago). A standard application takes 2 weeks to process. If you have a pressing need, you can accelerate the process for no extra fee. However you must bring proof of travel, e.g. your flight ticket, showing your date of travel. It can even be done same day, but I wouldn't risk that. You have to queue in person so get there early and bring a book because it is extremely boring and there is always a long queue.

I got mine in 3 days (you return to the Passport Office on Molesworth St. to collect it because they don't want to risk a delay in the post if you have a pressing need for the passport.) In fairness to them they were extremely prompt and professional about the whole thing, I thought there'd be all sorts of difficulties.

And if you are a minister's wife you can get a passport after you check in at Dublin Airport :rolleyes:

There's a Swiftpost system in some post offices. Basically you stick all your stuff in a special envelope. You bring it to the post office, where they check everything is in order (right documents, payment, etc), then they seal the envelope infront of you and fire it off.

Turnaround within 10 days. I love it. Doesn't cost extra either.
