You would be amazed at how rare good drummers are these days. You occasionaly find really good drummers but they don't want to play certain music!

Yeah well...gonna have 2 wait 2 get good,no kit for a while only lessons....stupid parents

Don't mean to rain on your parade but you have to be naturally good to play drums. No amount of lessons will teach you good rythm. Just ask my old drummer. Could drum to save his life!

Yup I know,I'm just trying 2 be positive....thinking I will be good, probably won't, but better to pretend I will be!:)

Indeed. Ah fair play to ya mate. Hey, maybe you'll come drum for me in a couple of years eh? Always in need of a good drummer!

Will do! But no1 wants a girl drummer

Lenny Kravitz does! Hey, as long as you can pound skin well enough, you can for me!

goodgood! First I have to convince parents I really want to keep playing so they'll buy me a kit!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

That's always the hard part. Although if you work, a resonably good kit will set you back 2 weeks ages, about €450 or there abouts.

nah don't work but thinking about getting a job in september so I can buy myslef a kit then! I also have the problem of where to put the kit....

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Garage or bedroom usually work well. You can also get practice pads that you put on the individual drums to deaden the sound so the parents won't be complaining about the noise!

Don't have a garage....bedrooms the smallest 1 in the house...without the bed a drum kit would fit, only other option is shed cos its pretty big!

Shed's not a bad idea. We better keep this to pm because we seem to have hijacked ferdi's thread. Apologies Ferdi.

If ever there was a false statement made this would be it!!! Sure natural rhythm helps a whole lot. But you can learn a whole lot from a good teacher.

IMO, rythm cannot be taught, it has to be natural. Teachers can teach you a great deal about technique and how to improve your rythm but if you don't have it, you dont have it.

i think its just a case of that people with natural rhythm will improve at a much faster rate than people with none, so it takes people with none much longer to be good and be able to play in time, in which case they might get frustrated alot and fed up and quit.

I kind of agree with you here, and I'm a drummer.
If you don't have natural rhythm it doesn't mean you can't drum, but generally I find people who don't have a natural rhythm are poor drummers at best. Still, alot of these poor drummers can make it with big bands. I wouldn't call any of Oasis' drummers good, but they made it...

While drummers with natural ryhthm you appreciate much more.... Joh Bonham, Mike Portnoy, Dave Abruzzesse, **** even Phil Collins.

It's like playing the guitar. Techniques and theory can be taught but if you don't have that core talent, you'll never be an amazing guitarist.

dr.loon- i agree with most of what you said but oasis did have good drummers. i dont like oasis, in fact i hate them, but steve white is a great drummer. he has been on clinics with chad smith and is widely respected in the drumming community.

Yeah alright.... my mistake. Oasis have never really required much from their drummers anyway, so there's not many interesting beats there IMO. But fair point.

Err, dont you mean Alan White, Steve's younger brother?? Steve plays Premier, so WTF would he be on a drum clinic with Chad Smith for when Chad plays Pearl? Steve, to put it correctly, is an awesome drummer, but AFAIK plays for Paul Weller, not Oasis.

    K-

More to the fact that Oasis drummers could be replaced by monkeys.

    Their first drummer was AWFUL.

"Hey man, isn't the drumbeat for supersonic great, lets do it again for more songs!"

no i mean STEVE white.when oasis went on tour in america steve white played for them. and steve white was a drum set clinician, breaking all clinic attendance records in 2000 with chad smith during there legendary 'With Attitude' tour.

    so there!!!
