On my travels during 2am on Tuesday morning I turned on to TV3 expecting the usual drivel of home shopping. But to my amazement they actually had music on.

The shows called 'music cubed' and it runs every night till 3.30am. (4.30 tonight). It has a selection of vids that the viewers can choose and people can also send in their messages. I'm amazed it's not on Sat or Sun but that's TV3 for ya.

    Check it out!

Interesting. May just be a trial - digiguide has it listed every night until Sunday 19th running till 3:30am every night (except tonight as you mentioned but then it's not starting till 3:35 tonight) but nothing down after.

Didn't RTE try something similar on Friday nights (N2) some time?

it is like Sky's music channels in that you vote for a song. by christ it's expensive though :( but a whole lot better than teleshopping :)

Getting ready for the Cable music channel. Nice to see them put their money in a useful place at 3.30 in the morning. Yeah just like their morning show.

N2 used to do 2TV on fridays and then they had the last broadcast.

Imo its good work by tv3, its only on till 3 or 3:30 in the morn....
pity it doesnt run all night,
tho you'd end up seeing beyonces ass wiggle as many times as possible in those hours. not that thats a bad thing tho...
    wiggle wiggle

Its funny reading the text that the kids send in tho, talking like stupid fupping americans with their "crews/krews" or "big shoutz out to" and their bippin and a boppin and their hippin and a hoppin. kids these days....

the site for the thing is www.cubed.tv apparently...

It's pretty funny all right. Watched some of it last night.

"JIMMEH IN DONGAL SNDS GRTS UT 2 HIS BTCHS N HOS NO POP PLAY METTALLLLICA"

(can't have figured out how to just send in a vote)

The website says that texts sent are moderated but I noticed quite a few shits and fcuks getting through. Later a few were asterisked out. Perhaps the moderator went to the loo or something.

They seem to have bought software in from somewhere (or changed their minds after signing off on the deal) - the videos are locked out for two hours after being played (which doesn't make sense (yet) given that it's on one hour a night) and there's a voting facility on the website that doesn't work.

Definitely a good move by TV3. Night time TV is ****e... and there must be surely a decent amount of people flicking around at that hour? What with more night shift working than ever now and all that...

Someone could clean up with a decent classic comedy/80's tv/80's movies line up at that hour. Instead we get Z-rated celeb crap and also-ran comedy from the United States. It'd make me fall asleep... well, if I wasn't already planning to at that hour.

The amount of people I've heard even recently bemoaning Sky dropping their Long Play night show... Cheap enough to do, people like it and they make money from it as well (wonder if it counts towards their home produced requirement). If they make money out of it they can hopefully buy a few more early movie premieres with it.

Good Move by them, dont usually watch TV3 at that time though!

i watched it last night for about a half hour and some of the things being texted in were both hillarious and very embarrassing. probably 12 year olds on their summer holidays or some spanner who is really dedicating his tune to his many bitches

Very weird indeedio - I turned on TV3 t'other night and Smells Like Teen Spirit was being played. What the fook i says to meself. Nice one. Fair play to Shibee Shee, coz it's not like yer gonna see any music videos on MTV now is it ?!

They have a few good video on it the other night I saw flaming lips fight test and pixies debaser

It's better than Kerrang! for rock music. haha. Pitty there's no Pantera on there instead of crappy Metallica.

I watched it for about half an hour tonight and they played more good songs than MTV has in the past decade :]

What other show would play not one, but TWO Pixies videos?

    plyd TV3.

Oh and yea, the txt messages are both funny and disturbing. I mean, are there really people in Offaly who have bitches and krews? It's a wonder they even have TV's! (Ba-doom-tish).

Yeah I was about to say the same thing about all the Longford people on there.

Did anyone else notice how Meath people were texting in "Meath for Sam" tonight. I found that weird. Funny too because all the Cavan people were on there taking the piss out of them and Monaghan. :D

Any time I turned it on they were playing standard pop crap.Never paid attention to the texts but me will now as it seems pretty funneh from what yall said.
"All yall fake ass rich bitches from southside can eat a fat motherfuc`kin dick.Yall better recognise you punk ass mother****`ers.Yall better ride or else collide with the Northsidaz"

Being TV3 I wonder if the texts are edited? If not itshall be highly entertaining reading"Johnny Spannerlys oul lass has a big cock","For hot blowjobs ring Seans oul boy 086123456" and other such messages normally found on pub toilet doors.

strangly enough some of them are edited and some are not also it states thae no full names will be mentioned but they are numerour times.
They probably have one of the ten people that is tv3's entire workforce siting at a computor with thae ability to moderate them but because he is up early to film morning Ireland he falls assleap now and again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

...A workforce of 10 dedicated people who work off their own strength is better than a 1,000 biddies and so-called "presenters" leaching my license fees, well, IMO anyway.

TV3 do something good - and - as usual when the term "TV3" comes up, someone decides to take the piss. I think they're doing a fine job with the tools they have.

That playlist on the website is quite impressive, lots of unusual stuff. Probably a larger playlist than all of the MTV, SKY and EMAP music channels put together.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

Metal seems to be a popular choice on Music3. Pitty there is no good metal on the damn thing with Guns N Roses being the exception.

few of us on irc watched it while chatting

dogs texted something in - a paste from an mirc script saying "now playing mpeg stream from Cranberries-Zombie.mp3"

it got up on the screen

    we laughed

    the story ends

[02:16] (dogs): meh, i couldnt think of anything else

Oh we're a mad bunch, I tells ya...

earlier in the week i caught some of it, maybe it was last week and it had no mod'ing whatsoever, think its changed since then though :P

It's being advertised on TV3 in the daytime now. I presume it's here to stay. Wonderful :) beats shopping channel anytime. Funnily enough, beats MTV too.

Yet again, i turn it on and it's half way into playing Teen Spirit!

Not that that's a bad thing really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

i have this on at the moment. they played 10 seconds of Welcome To The Jungle, then cut away from it  , played a few seconds of a Radiohead song, the Pixies after that and now Radiohead again. i want to see the video for Welcome To The Jungle, i've never seen it before

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 274 ✭✭adjodlo

It's not the origional video for welcome to the jungle but rather seems to be an updated live one that shows footage of that riot Axl started, among other fvcked up things

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

so i saw last night. they played half of it at the very end of the programme. they cut away from it for infomercials. is this a policy of theirs, showing half of a video

also it was the Live Era version of Welcome To The Jungle

Has music3 bit the dust? not that I watched it a whole lot since I got Sky in last october, but I did watch it a bit at the start.

Is this yet another cutback by TV3?

Whats next to go........... and they complain about UTV being added to Sky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

    Whats next to go...........

Their name, it will now be known as ITV Éire :D

No I think it is still on. Just that it's on at 2am in the morning so I don't watch it.

How can ye have Tool & Nirvana videos and not have The Smashing Pumpkins or Soundgarden?

It's run by muppets as far as I can see....

How can ye have Tool & Nirvana videos and not have The Smashing Pumpkins or Soundgarden?

    You can't please bloody everybody.

...Yeah, all I've seen on TV3 when I turn on is a giant loop of their own internal adverts. I hate that...e4 do it as well...normally it takes me a while to catch on to what's happening... "waaaait a minute, have I seen that ad before?"
