    Hey

Does anyone know a good private place that you can have a picnic? I want to surprise my GF with one, but just can’t think of anywhere that’s a bit private with out the usually tourists. I’m from south Dublin so was thinking Wicklow mountains or so anyone got any ideas

    Cheers

Avoca if you're willing to drive a bit

I was going to saw Powerscourt but I'm not sure how 'private' that would be. Just drive up the Sally Gap, find a good spot and pull over.

Well none of these are private, but they're certainly great for a picnic:

    - Herbert Park

    - The Iveagh Gardens (park behind the National Concert Hall on Earlsfort Terrace, entry either off Harcourt St. or from the grounds of the NCH.) The gardens have been completely renovated, marvellous rose gardens, walks, even a fantastic waterfall. A much underused resource only 100 meters from Stephens Green.

    - Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park. Go during one of the Sunday afternoon proms. The gardens are *huge*, if you can't find somewhere private there, then you are truly buggered. To see the proms music being played, see the 'This Season at Farmleigh' brochure on www.farmleigh.ie Every Sunday afternoon in July, the Royal Irish Academy of Music is playing at Farmleigh, entry is free and tickets are not required.

Fitzgeralds Park in Cork. Just keep to the front and you won't see a wino for most of the day.

There are plenty of places in the Phoenix park that while not private, are as good as.. i mean almost no one goes to them. Areas of forest for instance that are off the beaten track. You might see the odd person in the distance but thats about it.

    Mountains are great too.

Iveagh gardens is a good idea, its remarkably quiet for its central location. I never knew it existed when I first entered it. You'd never realise it was there, in the centre of town.

Somewhere on Killiney / Dalkey Hill, not deserted, but certainly quiet. Or Howth, the coastal path is often quite empty.

Just thnk of a really good place you'd leave a body after doing something illegal... thats where you should go.

Also the picnic would be a surprise, I'm sure she would be pondering other thoughts especially if you bring something sharp and a blind fold

Graveyards are a very underated picnic place, very quiet, never any tourists and lots of stuff to lean up against if your tired. in fact i have no idea why people don't go there more often!;)
