All I want is to connect me 2 pc's, ALL I WANT!!

    /me breaks down in tears

Ok, some of you may remember me finding out my cable was damaged a while ago, so i returned it. I have a new one that works but only one of the computers is recognising the other, so i can only use the network from one computer.

Any of you gurus have any ideas?

(the network is between xp home(dunt work) and xp pro(works)

the IPs and netmasks are all set to be obtained automatically.

    Problem solved

Hi...first of all I would use static IP address...

    XP Pro - 192.168.0.1 Mask 255.255.255.0
    XP Home - 192.168.0.2 Mask 255.255.255.0

Then make sure you can do continuous ping (ping -t 192.168.0.x from whichever)

What do you mean by "(the network is between xp home(dunt work) and xp pro(works)"

What doesn't work? As in you can view shares on the XP Home box from the pro machine, but not vice versa? you might try this then on the pro machine...

    1. go to control panel
    2. choose admin tools
    3. choose local security policy
    4. then choose local policies
    5. then security options
    6. have a look at the "Network access keys...."

rememeber to reboot after making changes to the local security policy...
