The owners of that site should be ritually bludgeoned with medieval maces.

    Just thought I'd mention that...

how do you connect to the internet? And what version on Windows?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭cranoo

    win 98se adsl

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,569 ✭✭✭maxheadroom

Somebody with some win98 skillz will have to help you out.

You want to scan through the registry looking for the address that keeps coming up. You might also have to get rid of a "connection specific DNS suffix".

If it was WinXP I could talk you through it... sorry :(

possibly a script loading at startup that resets the homepage,
try Run - MsConfig - Selective Startup, untick all the boxes.
also have a look at win.ini if you're comfortable with that, might be something loading in there.

Also check the properties of the IE executable and see theres no extra options in there at the command line.

That should get rid of the script ****ing up your home page.
For popups, get the new googlebar, it rocks for popup blocking and dead handy too.

    http://toolbar.google.com/
(Get the 2.0 Beta version for the popup killer)

    hope this helps

This problem has been around ages.
Do a search in here for lop.com or download ad-aware 6.0 I used it last month to rid a pc of it.

The owners of that site should be ritually bludgeoned with medieval maces.
    I agree.

This should be made a sticky tbh its being asked all the time

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
this blocks spyware activex doenloads before they can affect your computer, also has a tool to lock your hosts file to stop homepage hijackers

    http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
spybot will scan and remove spyware thats already on your system, also has advanced features that allow you to block known spyware downloads, and certain webpages

    http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/
Adaware... same as spybot, but you have to buy adaware plus to get the advanced blocking features.

I use them all in conjunction with each other on 20 machines in an internet cafe, and find these three to be the best of all the ones i've tried

Also if you dont want to goto the site you can download the following files:
