    Are any good films planned?

Next week its Another 48 Hours V Predator 2

I liked Predator 2, I would say Another 48 hours will win.

It's a good idea, but as far as I can see it, now we get to choose what crappy film we watch instead of just watching a set crappy film!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭patch

Yeah, the Brother pointed out yesterday that they could have offered the origional, well recieved movies instead.......

All you good people tonight prepare yourself for T3: Rise of the Machines

    Cinepicks Tonight:

A chance for viewers to choose between sci-fi action drama Terminator (1984) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Soldier (1998) starring Kurt Russell

anyone know what the number to ring is? Surprisingly I can't find it on RTE site.

Any need to ring? If Terminator doesn't win, I will die of shock. Literally. Soldier hasn't a hope in hell, with T3 opening tomorrow and previewing tonight.

But at least we're guaranteed some sort of a semi-blockbuster movie at a decent time of night. Tonight (Saturday 02/08) was dire in terms of decent movies... and don't even get me started on TV programmes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Of course they put the Practice on every now an then on A saturday on N2. Just put it back to sundays on RTE One.

Also have you see ITV on a saturday :( or for that matter have you seen ITV

Just out of interest have any of you (or anyone you know) actually voted on this cinepicks thing? I think it's absolutely ridiculous to be wasting money voting just to watch movies that your licence fee has already paid for.

Now on the other hand if they started doing a daily 'Baywatch v 6.01 News' then that'd be a different story.

I think it's annoying. You look at the paper and see the choice and if you like one film and hate the other, you don't want to start looking forward to the one you like in case it dosen't get voted for.

RTÉ must be making a considerable share of its earnings from phone-ins and text-ins, by the look of it. Will ppl never get any sense and stop falling for these scams?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭ciano

Does anyone know what the choices are for tonight??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

I never watch it for the simple reason I have Sky Digital. I flick through my Sky TV Guide and put things into my program. If I see a film listed I want to watch then I will (stick it in my reminder/program anyway). I never remember to check oh which two films are listed this time*

They're always bad anyway. Waste of time if you ask me. It's not like we haven't already seen all these films before.

*I'm also lazy. I like a quick flick through the menus

    RoboCop and Chain Reaction

It'll be close but I think robocop will make it.

Not much of a choice there, is it? Im not really keen on watching either. RoboCop is a film that hasnt aged well at all in my opinion. And chain reaction simply just isnt that good.

ah would like to see chain reation cos i never seen it b4, but robocock is on several times a year

    Shallow Grave V Crush Proof

Crush Proofs Irish And I'd like to see it as I have never seen it before but then I like Shallow Grave.

It's the Big Brother Syndrome of repeative txt to TV and Radio stations for no apparent reason.

Oh yes and this the even bigger scam
I never watch it for the simple reason I have Sky Digital.

You know Rupert Murdock is one of my heros.

I would have prefered chain reaction too as i feel it was always a little underrated and when saw it i enjoyed it a lot.........then again robo cop is class..........

I'd also like to see crush proof as ive never even heard of it but as elmo said shallow grave is brilliant..............

No offence but nobody cares if you have sky digital.. If you have it then that's well and good fair play but some people don't.. it looks like the whole point of your post was to brag about having digital.. which has nothing to do with the topic - N2 cinepicks

If you have watched them repeated 6000 times a day on sky digital, if you don't have sky digital then yes they actually are good movies, Robocop's a classic, same with Terminator 1 the week before - brilliant movie

All RTE are going to do is show the films that were not voted some time later in the year. All the films that can be voted for are going to be shown at some stage.

That makes quite a bit of sense actually. With the way movie rights packages are negotiated it's not as though Bob Collins or Cathal Goan get on the blower to Columbia (or whoever) on Thursday afternoon: "yeah, we'll be showing Robocop tonight so we'll just send you back the other tape - thanks lads"

If they've paid for the rights they'll show it some time.

The break for the news does my nut in to be honest but they're all at it these days.

It shouldn't be allow but then I think you should only have an add break half way through a film for about ten minutes or so.

Idle hands an new movie (1999) was shown on RTE One at 12:30, why?

Either you put up new movies that aren't that good againist classic movies e.g.

    Idle Hands V Trainspotting
    American Psycho V Pulp Fiction
or else really good movies againist really good movies
    Trainspotting V Pulp Fiction
    Shallow Grave V Jackie Brown
28 Days Later V Resovour Dogs
The Danny Boyle V Trantennio (sp) Season.

I know 28 Days Later is very new. but you get my drift

Goddamn RTé, I haven't seen Idle Hands in like 2 years, and because of their crappy schedule I miss it, fook them.

    28 Days Later

RTE wont has the rights to 28 Days Later for at least three years.

Idle Hands is on either this Friday or Saturday on RTE 1 at 12:30.

Yeah, this friday night, so make a date, its still **** scheduling. Also their mid week movie is Under Seige 2.

TV3 have being doing the same also, but with TV3 its lets repeat that again and again and place the new movie on really late.

don't be slagging off Under Siege 2. its got Katherine Heigl in it. and theres a choo choo train aswell. what more could you want from a B movie.

but does anybody else just look at the N2 cinepicks thing and go "oh theres no definite film on tonight, so I'm not bothered watching". you give me a choice, I give you indifference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,924 ✭✭✭Cork

RTE's Wensday movies have got a little oldish alright. RTE never shows John Hughes films or decent comedys.

What we get is the same number of films shown over and over again.

No RTE don't always have a network TV Preimer for their mid-week movie (Nestle prob not to happy with that) I think that because of TV3 who also don't always have a network TV Preimer on A Sunday Night.

I think both channels need to sort that out their are plenty of preimers for both.

Also next Friday at 11:30 has the network tv preimer of The 13th Floor (I know its crap) but its still a new movie. They might be doing a really bad season of bad 1990 horror flicks on friday nights or something.

But then Next wednesday see Oh! Brother Where Art Thou? (2000) WHICH YOU MUST ALL WATCH ALL WATCH ALL WATCH MUST WATCH YOU ALL WATCH OH! BOTHER WHERE ART THOU? :D

Erika Eleniak, a boat and a birthday cake?

(Katherine Heigl is rather tasty - although all she's making these days are TV movies)

Well, he's only directed eight movies in total - and Paramount and Living have the current rights to almost all of them(FBDO and Pretty in pink are in their current rotation). Hasn't directed a good movie since 1987, hasn't produced a good movie since 1996 and hasn't written a good enough script since 1990.

Meanwhile, on the "never" part, RTE are showing She's Having A Baby (1988), directed by Hughes on Aug 25.

This weeks Cinepick is either Rob Roy or Sleepers. Was Rob Roy not one of the cinepicks last month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

    Yes, I was thinking that.

N2 Cinepicks is a great idea from RTE Ihave to say, finally there some decent films on and USUALLY the good film wins out.

But of course RTE make some money off of it all, but as long as they put the money towards getting more decent films I won't be complaining...
