Why does anyone order ADSL from Eircom?

Especially boards.ie users - Esat and UTV do it cheaper (and bigger cap) and Netsource do it without a cap.
Now, ok if you don't care about the cap or want decent service then don't go with netsource but why the hell go with eircom?

The ONLY reason I can muster is if you're living at home with Daddy and/or Mammy and you think this whole changing provider thing is too much for their feeble little minds...

Please edumacate my to the reasons behind this loyalty to the beast. I really want to know...

Its a mystery but maybe its as you said.. Also Eircom might be faster at rolling it out since they have been doing it for a while.

Ive had my dsl for over a year and a half, have you? No because your not with eircom.

Early adopters had no choice but to go with eircom as it was all that was available. Without early adopters you wouldnt have your other offers now.

Also, suppose you want a RELIABLE uncapped service and Esat has not enabled your exchange, then eircom are your only option.

Maybe a business has a prior relationship with eircom and are unwilling to go with another provider.

There are lots of reasons and sentiment does not figure in most of them.

This is true but I was talking about people who are ordering DSL now - not people who ordered when dinosaurs roamed the earth;)

Fine if you're a business and can't get residential but most boards.ie users are not business owners (with noteable excptions).

This is similar to my (perhaps glib) mammy and daddy comment - only businessess should know better. Though as you said if you absolutly require bb and have it from eircom already then the disruption of service may not be acceptabpe.

i have eircom i-stream starter and the reason i got it of them was because i could get it without too much of a wait ( compared to esat) the cap does not bother me as i'm not a big downloader, i mainly surf and play games,

i was origanly going with esat but there was too much of a delay, i have my bb since 22/05 , a guy from esat rang me two weeks ago to follow up on my intrest in there bb and i told him i had gotten eircoms as they were taking to long to roll there service out + utv have only launched there service here..

it was not loyalty to the beast, it was quite simply the fact that i wanted bb as soon as possible because like a lot of people here i save money buy having it, and i had no intrest in netsource.

If i was getting BB i`d be going with eircom, with a low cap like 4gb, you have less warez monkies on your line compared to VIA, also the eircom starter pack can have Interleaving disabled, all this is related to online gaming btw.

Went with eircom for dsl as the radsl service is only available in 512k and with a high contention, and esat havent upgraded my exchange for their adsl.

Eircom will be fine if you want to just play games and Surf, If your a heavy downloader forget it. When my Line is activated ill be going for Eircom, due to their RADSL has interleaving on very very low or even off, which means solid 30 pings to Jolt or UK servers and 120-130 USA, Which is really good plus gaming doesnt take up huge amounts of your cap, it also looks like microsoft will chose Eircom as their Main Broadband provider for Running Xbox Live on, when its launched.

EIRCOM radsl 512kbit is far superior when it comes to pings and latency.

ESAT IOL pinging around 15 ms higher than what I've got.

    Proof?

Pinging clarity.jolt.co.uk [195.149.21.11] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=29ms TTL=56
    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=29ms TTL=56
    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=56
    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=56

It's also more reliable and stable.
    I ping the same 24/7.

Esat/Bt RADSL is pinging slower than Eircom RADSL? Is that right? I am looking to get IOL for online gaming and Xbox Live. I presume that it will be perfectly fine, but if the pings are significantly slower then I will reconsider the Eircom option.

Question: Why does anyone order ADSL from Eircom?

... Why does anyone order anything from any specific company?

Answer: Better Reliability, Availability, Affordability and Quality of Service than the competition.

    Obvious, really.

I don't care who anyone else has order with, I went out on a limb with netsource seeing as it was only a 2month contract and nothing to lose, I've never been happier with a service, despite initial teething problems, it's absolutely perfect now, couldn't be happier. Pings of 40-50 and perfect download speeds with no cap.

Sorry Bard I can see some arguments for 3 of your points (don't necessarily agree but I can see situations where they might apply) but affordability? I can't see any circumstance where eircom is at a better price than the other providers. Or were you just including that as a general reason to choose any company?

Went with eircom i-stream starter, beacause I wanted BB as soon as I could get it - simple as that. Now that I'm with eircom, I must say that I am very happy with the service (low pings, excellent reliability..etc). The price could be a bit lower, but apart from that I'm happy.

I was considering Esat, but somehow I just wasn't convinced way back in April when they claimed installations would begin in May. I was proven right - as Esat have turned out to be even bigger jokers than eircom, and somehow even more inept (didn't think that was possible !). From what I've heard, Esat still haven't begun installations...and this is what....the 4th July !

From the postings on this board, the only good thing about Netsource seems to be the lack of a cap. What I want is a good quality service, good reliability and good pings - and this is what I have with eircom.

*NB. To clarify* - I am in no way condoning or praising eircom - as when it comes to customer service and efficiency they are a completely f###ing useless shower of c##ts. I've spent more time on the phone to Biddy, tearing my hair out in the last few months than I care to remember.

In summary, if you can put up with their crap (and cap!) - their BB product is excellent.

Reliability, Availability, Affordability and Quality of Service

um if your talking about eircom ..... most if that isnt true ........... esat are cheaper to install and montly retal ...... they are available in most (if not all) eircon exchanges The service is fine now pinging around 32ms-42ms course you cant juge them on reliablilty just now being only 3 days old

quality of service .... hmmmmmm perhapes they are better though in my view their the scum of the earth :p

Absolutely perfect would be pings of 28-31.

Cheers for the replies lads, I can't actually get DSL at the moment despite being in Blackrock and spitting distance from the exchange - they haven't upgraded it yet and and taking their sweet ass time perhaps because of all the ISDN lines there, bastids :)

    Stormfox1020,

I do a fair bit of online gaming - by that I mean a few nights a week. From my experience, your cap will hardly be effected at all from online gaming. It appears to be almost negligible in the grand scheme of things. Gaming online tends to upload information as much as downloading it, and it's only downloading information that effects your cap. I've had i-stream now for 2 months, and my total downloads for May and June were only just over 3GB each.
