I am wondering if there is any program avaliable to compare two word documents? <which are in the old irish, which shouldnt matter!?!>

they are more or less the same document but one has changes like the example below in english.....

Document 1 - "In the field the bull is"
Document 2 - "the bull is in the field"

    thanks

What differences exactly do you need to be able to determine? Telling if 2 files are different is one thing, telling if sentences are different from others is another thing completely...

why don't you use the "compare documents" option under the tools menu (tools->track changes->Compare Documents)? Check word help for more info.

Other than that, I suggest you save the files as plaintext and use any one of a myriad of tools (or just unix `diff`) available to do your comparisons.

if its a once off type of thing I'd do as davej says & look at the unix/linux functions, if this is part of a more fuller featured job, then you could investigate using VSS, you can use the VSS Object model in VB/ C++ & it works very well.

Might want to MS/Apps forum as this kind of functionality would be built into Word.

    Some kind of Team Versioning.
