Spending a week in LA on a RTW trip, and seemingly it is a sh*teh*le so we will be travelling from that base and would like suggestions.

So far I have: the Grand Canyon or San Diego.
Can't really do both due to time restrications.

Maybe this is a rhetorical - a city vs. wonder of the world hmmm.

Apart from that any tips / advice /experience on:
    Car hire in LA
Where to stay (LA / San Diego / Near the canyon)
    Must Sees

    Thanks in advance

Do the canyon then go to Vegas or vice versa. Sanners is a nice place but lacking in major places to see.

Out of those two I'd choose the Grand Canyon. It's an amazing place and is really something that you should try to see if you're in the area.

San Diego is cool as cities go but it's nothing amazing as such. It's much more friendly and laid-back than LA. They have a pretty cool zoo and they have that Water Wonderland thingy too. Very nice beaches but you'll find them everywhere in LA county.

What is very cool to do is rent a car and take the Pacific Highway 1 (I think it's called) which is the coast road from San Diego to San Fran (passing through Long Beach and LA).

Best car prices are to be found at the airport and you'll pay about $150 a week for a 5 door with air clim and you have to be over 21. Some agnecies will alos demand that you be driving for 3 years too but Bufget for example don't really care.
