I've a few friends coming over to Ireland in a few weeks, they want to see as much of the west coast as possible. We are going to the Aran Island for a day, well about 5 hours if possible. How do you get around the island? As far as i can see there are no car ferries.

you can rent a bike there, walk or if your really lazy there are plenty of locals who will drive you around in a minibus

the biggest island is only a couple of miles long so a bike is the best option (if it's not raining!)

No need to worry.... the best way to get around the Aran Islands is definately by bicycle. I went to Inis Mor which is the biggest of the islands and we cycled around the whole island in under 5 hours and had plenty of time to stop and rest and see the sights... you must stop and see Dun Aengosa... amazing! There are 2 bike rental places on the island - you cant miss them. I think it cost about 10 or 15 euro to rent the bike for the day. One tip Id give to you is to bring your sandwiches with you, there is a Spar on the island but its prices are really high, something like 4 euro for a small filled roll, its always packed too coz everyone gets off the ferry at the same time and the shop is full in no time. Hope this helps you, have a good time!
