Apparently there are ongoing negotiations between Chelsea and a Russian group to buy the football club and all other Chelsea FC holdings. The price bid is arounf £60 million + all Chelsea debt (£80 million) - total of £140 million.

Apparently the Russians are mega wealthy and are paying in cash. They have also stated that they are prepared to invest more money to bring Chelsea into the forefront of English soccer.

Was just on BBC news at 10 that a 36 year old Russian billionaire has actually bought Chelsea

Good buy by him, Chealse are a massive club with a considerable ammont of holdings around london, top youth centres and a great stadium. 140mil is a steal, infact I can't figure out why Chealse were so debt ridden in the first place.

But back to the point, My man in a london law firm which has connections with the former chairman says that yer man has stated that he will invest over 400mil in the next 3 to 4 years, with about 1/2 of this going into squad rebuilding in the next 2 years.

Apparently due to the guys position in Russia he will not be allowed to sit on the board - there will be 3 high powered positions going to his Russian colleagues though.

They are saying that it is likely that Bates will remain as the figure head of Chelsea, but without being the majority shareholder.

Excellent news for Chelsea. Great manager with funds and a good stadium.

although uncle ken has done the unbelievable with CFC over the last 30 years , this is amazing news for Chelsea fans , unlimited cash !!!!! in these days !!! whoooopeeeeee

and the guy Abramovich has said (alledgedly) that he wanted a club that could win European Cup.

BTW a lot of Chelsea's debt problems come from some strange financing deals we did for players which we are still paying off i.e for Petit and our ongoing loan repayments on a bond issue in the early 90s, we had another £10million due to bond holders in August this year , paid off £7 million in December. This was a real drain on the club, stopped us shopping this summer (so far) as did the inflated wage bill.

Lets just hope this Russian fella doesnt turn out to be another Al Fayed type.

Yea all talk and no money

then again this guy makes Al Fayed look like his poor cousin :)

Firstly, before Fayed Fulham were nothing - you would have laughed at the idea of them being in the Premiership.

Secondly, Zola is leaving - big loss. Guess ye don't care now though?

legitimate russian billionaire ? oxymoron surely

who cares as long as he he gives us his cash

Zola leaving is the biggest downer, you gotta love the guy , he's the only player I have ever seen cheered off by opposition supporters , at Newcastle, Norwich and even Everton last year , what a genius Abramovich should make a gold lifesize statue of the wee man !

Chelsea fans like myself will not get carried away yes money will be spent especially in midfield but the talk of 60 mil is ludicrous as that will go to the other things in the club, but we can sign players who we couldn't have signed last year.
Zola leaving is very sad a true gentleman superb footballer and a man who went on his word one day he'd play for Cagilari.:)

and on top of all this JT has signed a 4 year contract as well Carlton Osgood Cole. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

Its kicked off on the radio we have had 30mil bid for Henry rejected after the gooners board considered it very seriously.:)

    Ranieri + money = scary.

One of the best managers imo now gets money to spend.

Wonder if fergie will tip Chelsea to win league as he always does :)

Claudio is damn clever, clever enough to know that he shouldn't build a team in just one pre-season. I'd say there may be 1 or 2 very good signings this summer - the squad is already good.

They should be pushing Arsenal and Man U (and liverpool in my scary head) more this season and then the following season they will probably be part of the top 2 at the expense of maybe Arsenal.

Tis a scary thought but their new owner may be more interested in the CL so the priority may be only for a top 4 finish in the League - I'm sure Bates will still be there pushing for the league though.

Kluivert will probably be a target , with this financial backing they could I'm sure afford his huge wage demands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

centenary year in 2005 , CL, Premiership and FA Cup Treble would be a fine way to celebrate it !!

Hope there is a testimonial or goodbye game for Zola , against Cagliari would be great

he is going to plough 400 million into the club in the next two years we could compete with real for players

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭talla

If theres one club in England i've always wanted to do well secretly, it's Chelsea, but i just didnt want to see them do well because of that Nazi ****** Bates(and for those who think this comment is out of order, remember his refusal to do anything to prevent the racism shown again Henry in certain sections of the crowd at stamford bridge). As a Man U supporter, even on the last day of the season, I wanted Liverpool to win, just because of that man. anyway, i wish chelsea all the best this season, and if it had to come down to Liverpool and Chelsea again this year, i'd have no problem supporting Chelsea this time

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭JohnnyBravo

lad i dont want to jump the gun here but if he invests 400 million in two years at the club we have phonomenal players besides bates is merely a figure head now he can be booted out any time the russian mafia guy wants for the very simple reason he has no more shares in the club and if reports are to be believed the russian is going to buy out the rest of the club making us a private company bates has no say any more its great

Bates is still going to be running the board afaik. The Russian is the majority shareholder but because of his involvement in Russian politics he is not allowed to sit on boards. So your main man will still be there pulling strings.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 537 ✭✭✭JohnnyBravo

fraid not the russian is putting three of his representitives on the board and is attepmting to buy ut the rest of the share holders mrs hardy is ready to sell and if she does the club is his and he can do whatever the **** he wants there is no board just managers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭talla

yep i know the russian cannot take his seat on the board, and bates will be the figurehead, but he will not have the same power. As part of the deal, the new owner will post 3 of his members on the board. Any power bates had will be severely watered dowm. if all the shares are bought out and the company becomes a private entity again, then bates will be gone completely(although hes already laffing all the way to the bank)

Negotiations are underway to arrange a fixture between Chelsea & Cagliari as we speak (Type).

It would be fitting for a suberb servent for not just what he has done at Chelsea but what he done for the Premiership !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

Growler we're going to arrange a charity game for Franco Batsey said last night, we are the unamed club who had a 34.5 bid for Nesta turned down don't know if this true or not doubt it personally, would you like Okacha though?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

most fun I'm having at the moment is telling gooners that we are in talks for Henry and Viera and telling west ham fans that we were thinking of buying upton park for our youth training ground.

    Chelsea Fiction
Viera though I couldn't se it happening. Talk of Davids from Juve also , and more realistically PArker from Charlton.

    wait and see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

Davids could be quite likely - he only has 1 year left on his contract and I think he is willing to move, Juve would be glad to cash in before losing him for nothing.

I think Nesta won't happen - Berlusconi has more money and I think he took pleasure in rejecting the offer.

As for Viera and Henry - there is actually another thread talking about the idea of Viera going to Manchester. Highly unlikely that he will go to Chelse or utd but of the two (if I had to pick one) I think Chelsea would be the more likely.

I think ye are also linked with Jay-Jay Okocha and Kewell. Should be funny hearing all the transfer speculation. A lot of it will be rubbish but ye probably will get one or two class players in the next month or two.

Heard all sorts of rumours this morning, Seems Chelsea are buying half the World XI - kluivert, Nesta, Henry, Davids, Viera.

Most notably maybe is Nesta, whose club have confirmed they have turned down a €50mill bid for the sexy defender

    My Shopping List:

First things first sort out that CM.

    Parker
    Davids
    Van Bommel
    Gattuso

Realistically Parker, a very underrated defensive CM who is so strong in the tackle and can beat players.

Now we need a player of Zola's ability, you can't replace him its impossible.

    Pablo Aimer
    Okacha
    Cole
    Ronaldinho

Cole would be the likely if he could work on his finall ball then he'd be a super player but he has the habit of taking too many players on and losing the ball doesn't score many goals either.

That left wing is a prob with Le Sax getting on and Zenden not first chioce then Kewell/Duff would be perfect.

a RB for cover fo Mario M Glen Jognson from Hammers has been mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

My understanding that there is likely to be a Chelsea signing by the end of this week, with Zenden expected to go to either Inter or Lazio you can try and figure out who it is. :)
they have been working on the administiative side this week.
Bates said that the fans will be pleasantly suprised by the lineup at Anfield and we've been aftrer players since last Sun.
