If you had the rights and the money to produce a remake of any film you wanted, using todays FX and techniques.
What would it be and who would direct/star in it.

    For example:

    Highlander
    Direct: David Fincher
Starring: Hard one, but coz he's the only one who springs to mind is Viggo Mortensen.

I'd re-make the old 40's British movie 'The Bells Go Down' and set it in Manhattan just prior to 9/11.

    Id remake "MAD MAX" wh00t

I'm going to cry if I see another soulless remake. Literally, cry. I read that John Travolta is pushing to get Harvey remade with him in the Jimmy Stewart role, and I could feel the tears swelling up.

Hollywood is feeding on itself at a furious rate now.

I agree, 99% of the time, Remakes ****ing blow. But I was rather impressed with the Pierce Brosnan version of The Thomas Crown Afair, but that could be that the original seemed to have dated an awful lot since I had seen it as a kid.

    But to stay on topic...
I would like to see Terry Gilliam do a live-action remake of The Flight Of Dragons.
James Earl Jones would still have to be in the cast however.

I agree with the opinion that remakes suck ass. I hope that that rumour of a Harvey remake is not through. What are they trying to do remaking such a classic with that dead-end no-hoper John Travolta in it. How can anyone even consider him as a replacement for Jimmy. It's outrageous. :(

ObeyGiant put it best "Hollywood is feeding off itself at a furious rate" and a simple fat of nature would lead one to believe that when something feeds off itself it will eventually cease to exist.

Down with remakes, up with more creativity

Remakes suck. If I could remake a movie I'd like to redo the last two Batmans, they were to child friendly the first two were much darker.

Remakes generally amount to utter donkey balls, excluding Scarface of course. How about rehashing Get Carter, The Italian Job, Bedazzled and Solaris. I cant see how a remake of anyone of the aforementioned films would go wrong.

    the running man.

the original novel had such potential, then arnie got his grubby mitts on it

    starring me of course:)
or jake gylendhaal (i want to see him play a role other than a troubled teen, i know he's well capable)

I'd remake The Omega Man. I'd have Richard Kelly direct it and Edward Norton in the Charlton Heaston role.

A remake of a silent movie? Isn't that kind of stretching it a little?
At least by remaking a silent movie, they're bound to bring something new to the table by default: dialogue.

    :D

I suppose the point I was making was that it was the first major remake of a previous major movie & there was something of an outcry at the time that it was unnecessary.

    You're still right though.

    Like that I'll ever happen.

I'm going to assume that "Debbie does Las Vegas" (did they actually make that?) was effectively an enhanced remake of Debbie does Dallas (more jugs! bigger... ah you get the idea). Can't have been too much plot difference.

    (haven't seen either tbh)

Call me a child but I'd love to see a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". I'd give it it's proper title after the book, which was one of my favourites as a child. The original movie was great but they left out huge chunks of the book and added in stuff that wasn't in the book at all. Ooompa Lompa's were never meant to be orange!! I don't know who should direct it, Chris Columbus or Rob Minkoff might be good.

Well that is actually on the cards, Tim Burton is attached to direct aswell. Which means it's going to be a pretty twisted version :)

Star Wars I - the phantom menace....

Soylent Green, with Charlton Heston as Sol (cos he is old) or maybe Logan's Run with Keanu Reeves as Box, would suit him

    Ladyhawke.

    Keep Rutger Hauer.
    Get rid of Matthew Broderick.
    Replace the ridiculous 70's soundtrack.
