    altogether now POOR eircom

eircom set to launch wholesale flat rate Internet access.
    17:09 Wednesday 25 June 2003

eircom will launch a wholesale 'FRIACO' product this Friday, 27 June paving the way for the introduction of flat rate internet access in Ireland.

As well as facilitating eircom's own retail division, it will allow other operators who have not invested in their own infrastructure to launch flat rate Internet access products.

To date this year, eircom has invested over EUR 2.5 million in additional network capacity nationwide to make flat rate internet access a reality. This figure will rise to over EUR 11 million over the next three years.

Since January 2003, eircom Wholesale has worked to put in place all of the enabling infrastructure required for the introduction of flat rate internet access in Ireland.

This will ensure that there is plenty of capacity for eircom's retail division and other operators to provide flat rate products for their customers.

At a cost to operators of €14,780 per port per year, eircom's Wholesale rate is the cheapest in Europe.

eircom's retail division will shortly announce details of a range of flat rate Internet access packages suitable for both business and home users. This is based on light, medium and heavy Internet usage.

this bit is true apparentily, but their relatively expense backhaul drives up the cost quite a bit... or something like that.

How can you invest in your own infrastructure when it ultimately must be interconnected with the most obstructive obnoxious underhand incumbent in the EU and where you jhave no idea what sh1te and hoops the incumbent will put you through and where it will illegally mine its data to Win the customers back?

So there is plenty of backhaul and therefore it should be really cheap ?
