I assume by "opposite" you mean "opposite gender" - i.e. a clone of yourself genetically modified to be a different gender to yourself.

Depends on whether you are male or female

So for Hetrosexuals::
If you are male it's easy enough all you do is take 22 chromosomes as they are and for the 23rd drop the Y and double the X.. (this is not as dodgy genetically as it sounds as most genes are on the X chromosomes so not as much risk of missing a gene)

If you are female it's not recommended as you would need to get an X chromosome somewhere ( male relative ? ugghhhh ) - but then again you are less likely to need to resort to such stuff..

Also you'd have to wait 16 years or so until they were of legal age etc.. - and then there is all the fun and games if they get caught commiting a crime and it's down to DNA evidence..

(progeny would not be a good idea)

each of the 23 chromosomes is a pair - children get half from each parent - half from each parent Pp

the old analagy of a zip (think coat not compression) being in two parts and mixing the colours on each side.

so for each of the 23 chromosomes you offspring will have one of three possibliities
a) Pp like you - half of our mothers and half of your fathers
b) pp both halves being the half from your mother
c) PP both halves being the half you got from your father

(though see previous post about no 23)

Then there is crossing over. DNA is long (about 2meters in each human cell) and sometimes you get kinks and inversions -and other physical damage (not to mention the effect of UV joining two base pairs together) so you have lots of repair DNAases to join the bits afterwards - and they usually work - even if the parts of the joined strands come from different parents

This is where the left zip was red and the right zip was blue and somone went at it with a knife and parts of the right and left are now both colours...
