Well done scummers excellent away result for any team in europe.

Shamrock Rovers will return to Dublin as favourites to progress from the Intertoto Cup first round following a professional performance, backed by the eleven league games already in their legs this summer and two priceless away goals.

Rovers looked tentative in the opening exchanges. However that quickly changed when a defence-splitting pass from Jason Colwell resulted in a Stephen Grant shot being cleared off the line by Jan Cios on 16 minutes. Barely five minutes later Grant, in his second spell at the club, saw his twelve-yard shot beaten away bravely by reserve goalkeeper Marcin Beben.

It became a hat trick of missed opportunities when veteran defender Terry Palmer, scorer of sixteen club goals, rose to head against the bar from a James Keddy corner on 36 minutes. Odra’s only chance of note came from the shaven-headed Rafal Jarosz who squeezed his shot towards Barry Ryan’s goal, but Keddy regrouped with the former UCD stopper to keep the game scoreless as the half petered out.

On the hour mark Tony Grant slipped his marker to hammer home to the net but he was advanced offside when latching onto Shane Robinson’s slide rule pass. As Rovers pressed for a precious away goal, Odra were evidently crumbling with a makeshift centre back Blazej Jankowski have a torrid time with Stephen Grant.

On Buckley’s instructions Glen Fitzpatrick was playing deeper than usual and as Rovers seemed content with a nil-all score line with the stadium clock ticking past 73 minutes, a fatal slip by full back Ritchie Byrne allowed Jacek Ziarkowski to place the ball past the advancing Ryan, against the run of play.

Four minutes later however Stephen Grant got the equaliser and a goal he richly deserved from build up through Tony Grant and Glen Fitzpatrick. The most important goal of winger Tony Grant’s career came with seven minutes remaining when he slipped his marker in the box and stabbed home from close range.

In the final minutes, the stunned Odra side pushed forward in search of an equaliser but time ran out meaning Rovers have an important advantage going into next Sunday's second leg.

Yeah a good result indeed. Hopefully they can put in a solid performance at home to qualify for the next round.

I would not be getting too cocky if I were Rovers, the Poles apparently had 8 first teamers missing.

Well done and good luck, cant see them beating slovan but if they do our little ranking goes up again and oh look Pats are in 3rd which is the intertoto spot :D

Hopefully they have something to play for next week.

Inter-toto results don't count for Ireland's UEFA co-efficient so Rovers winning won't improve our ranking.
