hehe, aye this should be in the personal issues forum

or rather, it should be in the "Life's issues" forum

this kinda **** happens to everyone, everyone feels like **** at some point (some times more than once). some deal with it and go on with their lives, some don't.

I know what you mean about having bouts of depression and all you can do is ride through it, or seek professional help. just ride it through, take all the **** life can throw at you and you'll be a stronger person at the end of it.

if you don't believe that piece of inspirational bull****e, then just accept that life can suck sometimes, your life is yours to live.. if you are unhappy do something about it. Make some changes. change yourself, change your friends, change your habits.

whinging about it don't help, get out and bloody do something about it.

There are various types of depression, and just "Feeling Like ****" isn't one of them...

Depression can be due to a chemical imbalance in the brain (Name of chemical eludes me) which will just continuously (or in spouts) drag you down and make you feel extremely miserable. It is also possible to become depressed due to some nasty catastrophe in life, or experiencing something completely dreadful and all that...

My girlfriend suffers from the 'Chemical Imbalance' version, and it is by far worse than the rest, especially if nothing particularly nasty has happened to you before because then there is nothing to "Get Over" and so a trip to the doctor is due and you'll be subscribed the usual anti-depressants (Which aren't always suited to some people and, depending on the person, don't always work)...

Then you have your "Problem Based" depression which I, unfortunately, did suffer from for quite a while, but in this case dealing with the problem that is continuously dragging you down greatly boosts you're chancing of stomping it out completely, and without any medication, but it takes time and some effort...

If you are having a particularly bad day / week / month and you just feel ****ty, that is very unlikely to be depression, so get out there and enjoy yourself and socialise... If it IS due to some problem you've experienced, then make your way towards dealing with that problem (Again, this takes time) but once you do you'll feel better about yourself and can easily overcome you're depression.

Otherwise go seek some medical advice and see if drugs is a key to balancing out your "bouts" of it.

sometimes 'whinging' (talking) about it does help (hence counselling being all the rave)

Ropedrink, u cant say that one type of depression is worse than another, thats not fair, everybody has different experiences. in YOUR experience, maybe its true.....

u can just 'get depressed' having had no life event or major horrible thing happening to you. it can just happen.

and having a bad day or week, fine, case of the blues, but u are not qualified to say that having a bad MONTH, isnt depression. any 'blues' type feeling which lasts over two weeks needs attention.

Mordeth, this kind of **** (depression) DOES NOT happen to everyone at some point! so dont trivialise it! everyone may feel down in the dumps a lot during their life, but this poster used the word 'depression' which has little to do with feel a bit 'down in the dumps' .

your answer was such a cliche, basically all you said/implied was 'get yourself together ' and 'snap out of it' which doesnt help, in fact, it makes a depressed person feel worser about themselves, that they cannot, in fact, 'snap out of it' and 'get on with it' .

barely anyone on this site is qualified to say anything really...
Hence the recent thread from DeVore stating not to seriously heed medical advice without checking it out first...
and having a bad day or week, fine, case of the blues, but u are not qualified to say that having a bad MONTH, isnt depression. any 'blues' type feeling which lasts over two weeks needs attention.

Of course it does, but does that automatically mean it's depression. Feeling **** and feeling depressed are completely different things... It's like people who leave work because of a "Flu"... In most cases the 'suffering person' just has the sniffles and sneezes etc, but an actual flu makes you feel like a miserable ****.
Ropedrink, u cant say that one type of depression is worse than another, thats not fair, everybody has different experiences. in YOUR experience, maybe its true.....

Of course it's not fair, but it's true, and as well as 'different experiences' you get different levels of depression.
People can aquire depression in many varied ways, and they aren't the same... I'm only trying to help here... You have to KNOW what's wrong with you before you can fix the problem, and I said the above post as a warning as opposed to a "I know it all" statement... I'm also learning from my experiences (And if you read my thread by any chance you'd have seen a slight portion of them... They dragged me to the lowest pits of hell and I was genuinely depressed for ages, but I knew what caused it, and once I dealt with that problem, I felt great and have gotten over it immensely... When it's not to do with a problem or such, it's much worse because then you have to retort to medication, or even worse, hanging in some limbo wondering why you feel so bad... My girlfriend is an example... Now she has had a few nasty problems, and is currently depressed and on anti-depressants, yet she firmly believes it's nothing to do with her problems... Infact she has no idea what it's about and frequently breaks down into upset spasms and crying sessions - And all I get when I ask what's wrong is "I don't know!"

No, I'm not qualified to say anything here - I'm going on what I've learned as I'm sure the majority of people here do... It's up to Sproston wether he want's to heed any of the advice, and no one else...
