Another Crazy Ripoff

Was off on hols last week cruising the shannon and one of the places we stopped off in was Boyle in Roscommon where my wife decided to buy me dinner (our 2nd anniversary).
Anyway, the Royal Hotel in Boyle which has an appetising menu was the location chosen.
The staff were friendly, coming up to the table every so often to apologise for the fact that either mine or her dish hadn't arrived (is it that hard to synchronise delivery of two starters, two main courses, etc.?).
Anyway, IMO the evening was ruined (I couldn't complain as I knew she would get upset after treating me) but no the hotel can still top it off by charging an outrageously rip off price of €3.50 for a jug of tap water.
So moral is... don't go there!

Oh they are in this poxy country. I rang the hotel last monday as was told that this is not standard policy and then asked why it happened to us and the girl couldn't tell me. She asked if I had the bill and I said no (we were actually given two different bills at the same time and just paid the lower).
But unfortunatley they didn't give us a copy of the bill when they returned after taking the money.
**** it - it is partly our (her!) fault for not complaining - I know that I wanted to lose the head.

I think thats a major reason why so many people\places here get away with ripping us off or providing a shoddy service. Us Irish are renowned for not complaining about such things in general. i've done it, or should i say not done it myself of plenty of ocasions. i think attitudes are starting to change though. Viva la revolutíon!

In fairness - ordinarilly she / we would have complained but as she was buying me dinner for our anniversary she just didn't want the hassle
