    Just thought I would post a solution I found (I forget the forum, technet I think) as up to now, solving this problem usually involved a series of exporting to OE, deleting PST, recreating PST and importing everything except the outbox. After running the inbox repair tool and possibly SFC to check the status of MAPI32.DLL.

    This worked in Outlook 97 and is reported to work in Outlook 2000 (though I havent tried that yet).

    -In Tools->Options->Email, untick all "Check for new mail on" ticks
    -In Tools->Services->Internet E-mail->Properties->Properties->Connection tick "I connect manually"
    -Exit Outlook (forcibly with Task Manager if necessary)
    -Reopen outlook, and delete the message *before* checking for new mail.
    (Then restore the settings you changed)

    saved me a *lot* of time and hassle (telephone tech support:rolleyes: ).

    hope it helps.
