    Hi -

    My friend has a Philips MX3800D, which he bought in Dixons.
    He googled for a crack to make it region free, and found the same one on a number of sites eg. (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?dvdplayer=MX3800D&Search=Search)
    It allowed him to play a Region 1 disk, but it was black and white, and he couldn't get it to change back to region 2!

    Does anyone have a crack that works?

    Thanks!

    If it played in black and white then his TV probably doesn't support NTSC.

    According to that link
    Region 2 -> Play 159 221 002 08 Play
    makes it region 2.

    I suggest using a One-4-All remote as this will allow you to make the dvd player region free. With Phillips players the region locks after 25 changes and you're stuck on that region unless you do the One-4-All hack or get the player chipped.

    Thanks Makaveli, I should have realized black and white might point to an NTSC issue.
    The guy is gonna get his hands on a universal remote; guess he might need a new TV too!
