Was just wondering what was everybodies Graduation song (provided ya had one). Might be of interest to next years Leaving Certs.
Ours was Greenday-Time Of Your Life.

Its quite possibly the most stereotypical song that could be picked, thank God the people doing the music in our year had some originality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,875 ✭✭✭Seraphina

heh, we did a parody of 'i will survive'
i wont revise, i wont reviiiiise
it was pretty funny, no sentimental tear-jerking crap for us, all glad to be out of the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 romey

amen, and to think, I used to be able to tolerate that song...but after hearing all the knackers "yer grainday and dah song" I'm finding it hard

The last song played at our gradnite thing was Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Nobody was getting emotional or anything, just rowdy for the night ahead!

    Closing Time by Semisonic

its quite a good song and has very appropiate lyrics

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Squall

Wish you were here by Pink Floyd

Johnny be good to bring it up a notch

And then a nice thick slice of thin lizzy (whiskey in the jar)

And finally down to the pub for lots of beer and a Celtic match

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

there were plans to do an improv version of another brick in the wall part 2 when they were supposed to do Closing time now that would have been funny

yeah we had greenday too, pretty ghey stuff. Maybe we all go to the same school?

My prinicipal wouldn't allow me to play at our graduation. As at our christmas concert i played 'Rape me' to a bemused audience of teachers, students and the parent assocation, and then a guitar rendition of NWA'S 'straight outta compton'. Which he deemed i may do likewise at the graduation and jeopardise the night from running smoothly.

To be honest if i was allowed to play i probably would have went for that jimmy ray classic 'are you jimmy ray? who wants to know who wants to know'.

We had hours of meetings trying to decide on music, with the basic ground rules of no Oasis, no U2, no The Scientist and for the love of god and all that is holy, no Greenday (Good Riddance, although everybody calls it Time of Your Life). At one point we had settled on Never Forget by Take That for the last song but it was far too complicated, and we toyed with the idea of the Cheers song (or Flaming Moe's), the Friends song and literally hundreds of others based on our own ideas and a questionnaire the year took from which the most popular suggestion was The Final Countdown (Europa), but eventually we settled on the ones imp said (You're Ian. I just found that out although I had my suspicions) and then when we were planting our traditional tree we all sang an adapted version of Irland's Call (With the name of our school instead of Ireland, obviously).

I heard a song this morning that really should have been a candidate.

Van Morrison - Bright Side of the Road .

I'm shocked that I didn't suggest that it be thrown in.

yeh, we'd True Colours, You've got a friend and Oh happy days, among others at ours.

I really thought Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club- True Friends would be a class one to have , or Queens Friends will be friends.

Didn't have anything at our school, but I think Radiohead's Motion Picture Soundtrack and a re-worked version of Airbag would be sweet!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭snickerpuss

    Our theme is "Friendship is......"

    Yuck.
Anyway yeh we were meant to have some paddy casey song. But now its the Beatles.
I hate all that sentimental crap. (excuse my language)

I put down Eifel 65 - Blue, Electric 6 - Gaybar and Rednex - Cotten Eyed Joe. If any of them get played I'll be happy.

I'm lovin "Another Brick in the Wall". But doubtful my class will vote for it, bunch of spa's that they are. Unless I manage to get them listen to it all...ie "teachers leave those kids alone". Which is also doubtful, short attension spans and all.

Woo Woo Woo! Radiohead. Thanks to me, we're playing street spirit by radiohead. It's the only one i could get them to agree to :). I never thought of doing airbag, but i'll suggest that on moday. heh heh heh

A friend of mine has promised me that if some person attempts to play "Good Riddance" at the end of the year, the guitar/cd is getting pulverised, and rightfully so, in my eyes.
Of course, the obvious suggestions are there. You know the type, really heavy and confrontational titles. Obvious is nice sometimes, so in the last few days of school I'll be listening to the Icarus Line's "Up against the wall motherf*ckers" for a bit of a giggle.
However, I am a sentimental soul, so a lot of Mogwai, Godspeed..., Silver Mt. Zion, Explosions in the Sky, Elbow and sigur rós will no doubt be listened to, reminiscing about people throwing up, being pushed on to piles of bags, falling over, breaking bones, being egged and looking silly.
Oh oh, first Leaving Cert tear...

We got my way but one of our students sang it so was changed to "our way"

think "mexico" by mundy might be good!

I'd like Eric Cartman singing "Come Sail Away" by styx from the Chef Aid album. That would so rock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 666 ✭✭✭pigeonbutler

As far as I've heard ours will be:

Fields of Gold - The Police
    Every Breath You Take- Ditto
Whatever - Oasis (I love that song!!)
But unfortunately the inevitable Good Riddance will be there too.

In my school its 'Perfect Day' by Lou Reed, and '(I've Had) The Time of my Life' from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack... How random is that...?

    Counting Crows - Hangin Around
Greenday - Good Riddence (with Basket case halfway thru)
Beatles - Let it be (Beefed up, light distortion, 2 guitars..drums etc)

We had some damned good songs ready to go but of course the bitchie section took over and now we have

    Graduation Song-Vitamin C(dear god!)
    Crazy World-Aslan(CHRIST!)

and of course no ****ty grad mass soundtrack would be complete without-<drum roll please>-
    Good Ridance/Time of our lives-Green day(choke!)
