    Okay so long story short
    1. got virus
2.installed windows xp by accident onto the infected drive as oppsosed to my spare one
3.whenever computer started up there was a selection of two windows xp's
4.formatted c: (it's okay i saved all my good stuff)
    5.reinstalled windows xp
6.now there is a selection of 3 windows xp's even though only one is installed...

    okay so it wasn't short...

but eh... how do i stop having to choose from three windows xp's and start choosing from only one....???

Very simple but you have to be careful.

Boot into the xp you want to use.

    Right click on my computer.

    Go to properties

    Go to the advanced tab

There should be an option like "Manualyy edit startup....." and there should be an edit button there.

    Click the edit button.

Now you say 2 versions of xp are installed on the partitioned/other drive. Well there should be two entries that are very similar to each other. delete them and then save the file. Be very careful though that the right entries are deleted.

Next time you boot up it will go directly into the winxp install you want.

Hope this works for you ;)

You can also edit the boot.ini file on the startup drive in notepad. its a hidden system file.

Just delete the Two Lines that refer to the XP install you dont need, save and reboot.

yep the file he would be editing is the boot.ini, always find it easier to access from the My computers properites though :)

sorry reread ur original post, u've formatted so its the first xp in the list that you select. So your boot.ini should look like this after editing

so in other words keep the first entry and delete the two after it.
