The Darkness: The New Greatest Band In The World?

Ok, has anybody else heard of The Darkness? If you've seen them on TV, then you will certantly remember them - the lead singer, Justin, wears a kind of crazy inverse leotard.

Anyway, I've just started to find some of their stuff on Kazaa - and they ARE the greatest band in the world. NME gave them a review which I think fits them well - "The Darkness are like a crazy mix of Queen, Spinal Tap, and Led Zepplin at their peak". Very accurate I think.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there and see what other people think of them. Beats all the repetitive talk about Metallica.

I haven't heard them yet. I guess I'll have to wait until the Metallica gig to hear them. I hope there will be a new greatest band in the world, after Pantera splitting up there is a vacancy at the top for that title. Actually, on second thought. I think I'll check them out on Scuzz or something because downloading mp3's is naughty.

Nice sig pornapster - the vacancy has been filled :D

They're on MTV2 quite a lot at the moment with their new single "Growing On Me". Their old one is better though - "Get Your Hands Off My Woman".

They are kind of a wierd spinal tap type band, with cheesy videos and lightning striking guitars and such. The singer is wierd though, his voice is comical.

    The darkness ****in rule!
I haven't been this excited to see a band for a long time and theyre album isn't even out yet!
    Bags of potential superstardom!

I've never been a big metal/rock fan, but the darkness kick so much ass I've searched for every bit of their music I could find, and will be buying anything they have in the shops.

They are definitely the most refreshingly brilliant band I have heard in the last couple of years!

I got growing on me and get your dirty mitts off my woman (not by downloading angelwhore);). Class tracks i must say - refreshing is the word :D

IMO, The Darkness are without a doubt the worst band I've ever heard.

For one, the name. It just conjures up too many comical "OOO, I'm spooky" connotations.

I hate the video. I mean, what kind of sophomoric invalid thought of the whole "pterodactyl screws plane" yoke?

    And the nekkid.
    :(:(:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 302 ✭✭curadh

Come on dude you gotta love the shotgun style guitars! and the lightning and the pure comedy of the singer fella! lighten up dude!
I will admit the name is not good at all. Maybe its some private joke they have or something.

I don't think the video was intended to be in any way serious, do you? Admittedly, the pterodactyl shagging the spaceship is poor, but is a crazy operatic singer in a pink inverse-leotard maintaining a theme of a serious real-life drama or something? I don't think so! Take it as what it is - a load of taking the piss by a damn good rock band - no matter what their name is.

il second that nice sig comment pornnapster :D like mine better tho :)

Also, good to see fans of in flames, cos they really do rock ;)

Listen to Jester race transfigured and goliaths disarm their davids, both quality tunes from older albums.

    Hell yes they fookin rock!

Those are great tunes. I really love Goliaths Disarm Their Davids, the main riff is one of the best I've heard in a while. And by the way, did anyone else notice that some of their songs are unbelievably hard to play. I play some of the stuff but it never sounds right at all.

Yaa alot of ther stuff is rather tabbed wrong or else u have 2 drop c tune it 2 make it sound anythin like the cd version i.e. ordinary story :/

Some other tunes sound gud tho u just need rite tab: bulletride, jotun, espiode 666 etc. u can get gud powertabs and normal tabs of them at:

    http://www.deathwarp.com/DeathWarp/main.html

That should do the trick, just click on tabs at the bottom of the screen should sort you out there :D

Ever listen to In Flames tyranny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭Puck

They completely stole the show on Jools Holland last night. They were only ****ing brilliant tbh! I almost feel sorry for Moloko having to follow them (nah not really). They made every other band there look stale and boring.

I saw an In Flames video last night. I have to say the video was muck and the song wasn't much better, but in fairness its the easiest of all that low slipknot singing style music to listen to I've heard. Not in the same realm as the darkness by the way!! The lowest I'd go is Soil they rock.

Ignore all the stuff off the "Reroute to Remain" album. You probably heard either "Cloud Connected" or "Trigger". Try listening to stuff like "Jotun", "Man Made God", "Episode 666", "Embody the Invisable", "Artifacts of the Black Rain" and so on.

They sound like a technical, heavier Thin Lizzy. Very melodic. Just check them out! You won't be disappointed. But as I said, don't listen to Reroute To Remain. There is nothing worth listening to on that album.

Its hard to say what they sound like because they are very original. They have one guitar playing the rhythm's and another playing melodic stuff. I'm not sure if you will like the singer, but I'm certain that everyone that likes metal here will love the music.

Cmon pornapster reroute isnt that bad even though i prefer the older stuff. If you guys dont check em out itll be ur loss - newby metallers gah* ;)

Heh... I don't like it because there is not enough guitar work on it. Most of it is singing, bass, drums and then a few dampened power chords every 30 seconds. You know?

Speaking of the darkness. check this out

    made me laugh for ages....

I like reroute to remain, its not very guitar heavy, but it sounds good most of it, especially like Reroute to Remain, Trigger, and Im currently listening to Dismiss the Cynic.

However theres no doubt their older songs are much better, cant go wrong with the colony album, and then you have CLayman and Whoracle which are also great albums, and none of their albums really have a bad song on them (not too fussed on 'metaphor' which is on Reroute to Remain). But I have every song they've done (including alot that weren't on albums, such as a Metallica cover 'Eye of the Beholder', which is MUCH better than the origional, and then theres a few others aswell).

In total tho my favourite songs would be:
    Biosphere
    Colony
Trigger (best song on reroute to remain, hands down)
    Jotun
    Gyroscope
    Episode 666

Some other tunes sound gud tho u just need rite tab: bulletride, jotun, espiode 666 etc. u can get gud powertabs and normal tabs of them at:

    http://www.deathwarp.com/DeathWarp/main.html
I have been using that site for a while aswell, not that many bass tabs on it (I play bass) but they got one guy writes a GREAT bass tab for loads of In Flames songs, every song he has posted Ive learnt, you should take a look at them, his names Christian something. (the songs he's done include: jotun, episode 666, strong and smart, Dead Eternity, only for the weak, and then a load more aswell)

mx tabs have em but not sure if theyre right.

love the guitar solo in growing on me. although the way the camera focuses on his crotch while playing is a bit iffy.

Wow if they are playing with metallica and linkin park it looks set to be a great day out for me in august. Growing on me has to be the best song out at the moment.

its quite simple realy, the darkness kick ass. i am sick and tired of all the lets be depressed and moan and grunt down the mic and play guitars like a lactose intolerant kitten on lsd.

the darkness are just having a bit o fun and are kicking ass in the process, and who was slagging the dinosaur humping the space ship ? was frikken funny tbh.

I f you go to their website you can download live versions of streetspirit, growing on me, get your hands off of my woman mutha ******, love on the rocks, blackshuck.

They're deadly, they play well, they don't take themselves too seriously (bear in mind this is the bands 2nd line up, originally the rhythm guitarist sang lead but they got nowhere, then after a drunken karaoke session the lead guitarist took over as lead singer and they're going places)

Not eveyone is going to like them. People who like queen, Glam rock, and high energy will love them, but you have to see them perform live. I saw them do a show on BBC3 and was converted. THey also opened Glastonbury this year (with Streetspirit) so try and check those clips out. Otherwise see you at metallica in near future, or at vicar street. You won't be sorry.
