When I started playing games (long before you were born, by the looks of it) we didn't need graphics. Give us a few squares and some smaller squares and we were happy. Back then, games were fun to play!
to the person who made the nintendo comment about their games for five year olds.
look at it this way.
zelda - looks cartoony and childish kind of game. check the rating on the back it says three years + which is fair enough but if you can find me a three year old who can play zelda and know exactly what they are doing i'll give you cookies. same goes for mario and the others (super smash bros.)
also the show south park, looks childish and cartoony, is that for kids??? hope not
SINCE WHEN DID CONSOLES AND PCS COME WITH INBUILT GAMEPLAY©®
Seriously, I'd love to see your breakdown of the different graphical techniques used in games and why they impress you so, and what advantages do they have over other techniques.
I can't wait for real-time radiosity and sub-surface scattering myself, your thoughts?
Ah yes the old wars are back!
I have had all the machines, still do, and the DC was, and still is, an excellent machine.
It was peoples expectations of the ps2, with its emotion engine and such like, that made gamers wait for the PS2 and not buy the DC.
Those that took the plunge were treated to an excellent range of great titles that are hard to beat even today.
Games lists are so tiresome, but Shenmue 1/2, Space Channel 5, Ferrari 355, Toy Commander, Half Life (bro downloaded it for me, Wow!!), Chu Chu Rocket, Sonic 1+2, Powerstone and many many more.
The best racing game ever, Metropolis Street Racer of course gobbled up my time, prefer it to Gothams1+2.
It predated the PS2 so it was worth getting, by the logic, why buy it for original games when the PS2 has original games is crap, why buty the Xbox or Gamecube then?
Your console purchases should be governed by the games you want to play, never the maker of the plastic bow that enables you to play them, excellent games, original games have made me buy, and keep, every console over the last 15 years.
Tech Spec quoting is also a poor defence of any machine, don't defend the machine, defend the games that are exclusive to the format, the ones that made you buy the machine in the first place.
Jakkass, Syxpak you mustn't have enjoyed any of the games on the DC, assuming you ever had one, but tone down your worship of the PS2, we know it is a great machine, we know it has sold spectacularly well over the last 5 years, but we also know of the early disappointment with a really rubbish launch line up, Ridge Racer V, The Bouncer?
Awful stuff, it only picked up 6 months or so later, thank the ods I still had my DC to play while I was waiting!!
Now what was this thread about again????
HA HA HA!
Well Christ I loved that damned DC. Had the Saturn before it and played the virtua cops to death. Currently have old chugging ps2. 95% of ps2 games, I wouldn't even wipe my ass with. Can't keep up with PC requirements so I mite get an XBOX 2 because of the new Direct X technology.
wheres the xbox moderator eh, lock this gibberish.
For the record, those pics have been circulating for ages.
I think the xbox is the best console at the moment, especially a modded one.
Just to annoy bazH, played Virtua cop 1+2 yesterday on the saturn, they still got it!
Found my Lethal Inforcers gun too!
Now to find my Mega CD edition of the game, its in there somewhere!
No way Microsoft will release any pictures of the Xbox2 that aren't like a Supermodel shoot, ie perfectly staged and beautifully lit, they will show the machine off to its fullest extent and there will be no blurry secret shots.
/me scrolls back to check if I actually posted on this thread..
Oh yeah, about the Dreamcast and it's status as a "great machine".
It did have some good games, I never questioned that.
But the hardware was a bit piss-poor to be honest. Tile-rendering is nice and has it's place, but it can be limited for large out-door areas as there aint alot to trim down with occlusion culling.
As for my "PS2 worship"...wtf are you on about?
It's a repulsive hardware design. It works, sure, but it's so bloody convoluted and over-complicated compared to most of the consoles of the last generation.
AND it's an ugly son of a bitch. So is the XBox, but at least that can be made into a media box. The only console of the last generation that I genuinely have some love for is the GameCube. It's beautiful.
Paek, a techie.
And if you haven't copped on that it's the hardware I'm talking about then please stop pissing in the genepool and top yourself
ownin all three consoles around at this time i would have to say i prefer the gamecube. if it had online cpabilites like the xbox it wouldve done well. i do like the ps2 and the xbox but i dont think they have amazing games. like i bought burnout 3 on xbox cause of xbox live and the control. bought pro ev 4 on xbox cause of xbox live. i own 3 games for my ps2... devil may cry 1 and 3 and ICO. theres not a lot else i would pay good money for,. its the weakest of the three imo cause there is just so much crap on it. playstation has sold because of marketing. people se tekken as an amazing fighter cause they havnt played soul calibur because it wasnt promoted. people as a group are sheep! they follow the crowd. they get what their mates are getting.
I was going to go through this thread and ban anybody who's a stupid fanboy but there's too many. Instead I will lay down the back on topic trap. Further discussion not related to the X-box 2 will be a bannable offence in this thread. You've been warned.
Actually thats a good point, how on earth did we get into an all out war between teh game cube, ps2 and xbox!!! Each to their own people.
In either case, microsoft i would say will not release any photos of any kind for xbox2, E3 (in Autum is it?) is when we will see it as thats the official launch/reveal date... Until then lets keep the claws to ourselves...
E3 is next month, every thing happens from Monday 16 - 20 May. The Xbox press event happens normally on the Monday, (with Sony and Nintendo events on the morning and afternoon of the day after – guess I’m banned,) and the expo itself starts on the Wednesday and runs till the end of the working week.
Its being launched on the 12th of May 8pm USA, 9pm on the 13th for us
E3 and MS’s pre-E3 event still stands... but, yeah, my last post was before April 11, when MS broke the mould and said they'd show their console to the main-stream public on MTV in North America on May 12 at 21:30 (EDT)… it also be before Sony moved their pre-E3 event, and before apparently real Xbox 360 images were circulated….
