Incase anybody is interested i went ahead and got this for my mam, the cpu performs as expected.. nearly as good as my overclocked 3570k(cpuz bench matched it with a 7500k i believe), the hard drive is quite sluggish though and it would definintely benfit from an extra 4gb of ram
as far as im aware there is an m.2 slot on the board too if you want to add an SSD alongside the 1tb drive
the same laptop with a 128gb ssd and 8gb of ram was around 700 euro
I dont see any problems with the screen either unless you're some sort of screenaphile
I bought this knowing that down the road i can upgrade it if need be with more ram and an SSD
Actually the plan was to replace the 1tb drive with a hybrid but seeing as it has an m.2 slot I'll probably just get a wd green one for maybe 50 or 60
I hope this helps somebody
oh, the battery life is great too
What's the screen like...
I bought the same one as well. The screen isn't as sharp as some but for the price it's absolutely fine.
What about this... 8gbs of ram, never chacked availability or reviews but looks decent for the price no? http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10152&catalogId=14551&langId=111&productId=1223310
I expected the screen to be worse tbh, I mean you're not going to be editing photos for national geographic or playing some MLG fps games on it but I didnt have any problem with it so she definintely wont
having an m.2 slot is a bonus on that laptop especially for the price. makes it much easier to add a small ssd and keep the 1tb hd.
it will take a m.2 2280 (22mm x 80mm) drive like this one.
Thats one of the ones I was looking at but i went with the more (much) more powerful cpu despite it lacking the same amount of ram or an SSD as i can upgrade those myself at a later date
this is the same one albeit with a 1tb drive instead of SSD and an discrete graphics card if you're into those things
thats the one i was looking at glasso
I was actually wondering why it came with an m.2 slot included but i figured that using an m.2 drive on other models gives them more space to play with
with an ssd and a ram upgrade makes a decent laptop.
what it the screen quality like?
I'm happy enough with the screen, as i said before you wont be doing any professional photo editing on it but for the price i was happy with it and expecting worse
Pretty sure its a TN panel btw
yeah if it was IPS it would be heavily mentioned in the specs. not all TN panels on laptops are as bad as they used to be (don't deserve the blanket bad name anymore and actually on tv's can be preferable as they have better blacks) and have improved a lot recently but I guess at this price it's not going to be amazing.
Can you tell how many ram slots there are? and is there a slot to add an internal cd drive? thanks for your help
Two ram slots according to cpuz with one of the slots taken up by this
The exterior shell wont allow for a cdrom unless you get creative with a hacksaw, I havent looked inside it physically but one of the diagrams in the manual showed a cdrom... but that could have just been a generic image
You can get exteranl cd/dvd drives quite cheap these days too
