The OH is looking to sell her car. We moved into Dublin last year after years of commuting, and now both have jobs with good public transport links so only need the one car, so genuine reason for sale.
Getting the car valeted today, and will be putting advert up tonight. Its a 2010 1.6 litre diesel Proceed, fully service history with kia etc.
Just wondering is there anything we should definitely do / or avoid in a private sale? Have never sold private before, but have bought. Will be looking for bank draft only in payment i think, and we'll require that it is us who send off the completed log book. Anything else we should do?
Thanks in advance.
(PS - hope this is the appropriate place, seemed more appropriate than motors section, but feel free to move if necessary)
Never ever ever ever ever give the buyer the log book, you get them to sign it and you send it off, otherwise you open yourself up to fines and penalty points.
Only accept a bank draft if you can verify with the issuing bank that the draft is legitimate. Other options might be meet buyer at your bank and have them deposit cash in to your account or transfer money in to your account if they are with the same bank and funds can be verified as cleared.
The ad is very important, take a good 20 photos and use the best of these for the ad, make sure you have inside the car covered and out, photo the service history with owners manuals etc. Plenty of good ads to look at and rubbish ones too, use your own judgement.
Don't accept bids over the phone for the car without the person seeing the car, don't keep the car for anyone without a deposit given.
Cheers Atlantic Dawn, Some really good advice there.
As above. on top, this thread is worth a good read.
Good luck with the sale.
Legend, some great advice there too. Cant wait to have only the one car.
Can you show us the advert ?
Didn't get to take photos tonight, but once up will share.
Best time to place an advert is on a Thursday around 4pm
How come? (Or are ya winding me up )
Not sure but I'm guessing you will have a lot of people who want to view cars at the weekend and they start looking on thursday evening and your is top of list, then again could just be bs but does sound plausible.
We're having difficulty selling the car, we have dropped the price a few times, but really havent been that active in trying to sell.
We were considering looking into having some dealer sell it for us for a fee to take the hassle away (both flat out with work). Any recommendations for this kind of service in Dublin?
The car is a 2010 1.6l Diesel Kia Proceed with 97k Miles on the clock. Its currently priced at c.7k, but no bites.
Thanks in advance
Bad time of year for selling 2nd hand cars privately. I've a low mileage, high spec Qashqai for sale for over a month now. It's the lowest priced car in its class and I haven't had a call.
Is your car the Kia with all the doors open outside Woodies?
To be honest, the pics aren't great. There's no picture ofthe side of the car with the doors closed. Taking pics in a car park never reassures potential buyers, what are you hiding? It's best you take good pics outside your house where you will probably show people the car.
Maybe take pics of the service history.
Or even take a walk around video of the car
In advert description:
What has been done in servicing and by who?
Why you selling it and how long have you had it?
Maybe write how economical it can be etc
Yip, thats the one. Fair points in this, will look to update the advert. All services by kia main dealer, selling it because we no longer need 2 cars. Good point re the economy.
