Ok folks, this is something a bit special, & not something you'll have a chance to own normally. It'll be a bit of a read, but worth it
I'd a second cousin called Adrienne from a place called Plano, in Texas. In 2010, she came over to Ireland to represent Texas in the Rose of Tralee festival. The whole extended family from Texas came over too to support her, & it was great, we all got to meet each other again after a very long time...y'know, the usual family reunion type thing. After the competition, Adrienne returned to the US to finish her masters. She had vowed to return though, as by then, herself & Eoin (her escort from the Rose festival) had began dating & were very happy together. All was well.
Adrienne did eventually return to Ireland, in mid/late 2011, to live and work here. She loved it here, & made tons of friends during her time here. She was super nice, very popular, & again, all was well. That was until mid January, 2012. Adrienne took quite ill, & Eoin accompanied here to hospital. A short time later, Adrienne had passed away, of a suspected brain hemorrhage. It was devastating, sudden, & still these years later, I still find it hard to believe she's gone. She was only 26 at the time, & you can imagine the sadness & loss something like this leaves behind for her family, Eoin, & her friends. They were all amazing in the weeks & months afterwards, really amazing people.
A scholarship was subsequently set up in Adrienne's name, in the University of Limerick, for Brain Aneurysm Research, & that can be seen here.
Ok, fast forward to last year, Eoin & Adriennes' friends organised "300k for A", which was a 300 kilometer sponsored walk/fundraiser from Beaumont Hospital, Dublin to Tralee, Co. Kerry. This was in order to fund the scholarship further, & while it was a grueling and arduous journey, they persevered & made it to Tralee. A considerable amount of money was raised, & they all done Adrienne proud. I thought of a way to raise some funds this year, not to the scale of what Eoin & the other done last year, but something, however small, is a help. And that brings me onto the next bit...
The Game Chasers:
For anyone that isn't aware of The Game Chasers, what the hell are you up to?! They're basically a couple of guys, also from Texas, who are retro game collectors. They've been documenting their game searching exploits for a few years now, & are becoming increasingly popular as time goes by. They travel around local stores, flea markets, gaming conventions, & have gone as far as Canada etc. It's a fantastic show, & they deserve all the success they get. From finding rare gems, to having a laugh, to catching each other slippin', the show is nothing short of addictive if you're any way into retro/game collecting. We've a thread to discuss the shows here, & their gaming channel is here - The Game Chasers. You can buy their Season 1 dvd, & preorder their Season 2 set from their 'about' page, here.
Anyway, to continue on, as I said, I was thinking of a way to raise funds this year for Adrienne's Scholarship. I managed to get in contact with Regina, who is Billy's wife (Billy from The Game Chasers) to discuss an idea I had. I never thought I'd get anywhere, I mean, I'm a completely unknown random guy from the internet, & these guys don't know me from Adam. To my complete surprise, Regina said, 'lets make this happen', & she done exactly that. Firstly, I can't thank her enough, she's been incredibly helpful, trusting, & accommodating...again, to a complete stranger. Regina, you're an absolute star, & thank you once again, sincerely.
So here's the idea. This is going to be an auction thread. Auction threads are not normally allowed here, but with the kind blessing of Dav, Mr E, Ciderman & LoGiE, they've 'made this happen'. Thanks guys, I really appreciate this being allowed.
We've agreed to waive the normal 50 posts requirement for Marketplace use just on this thread.
This auction thread will remain open from now/today (31st July), to August 15th at 18:00 (6pm).
The highest bidder at that time will be the winner. If that winner backs out, it will fall to the second highest bidder, & so forth. In the event of a tie, the last post displayed at 18:00 on the 15th August will be the winner.
All prices & bids are in Euro/€
Bids are to be locked in at €5 increments. No bids higher or lower than €5 please. This is so everyone gets a shot, & nobody drops a huge big early on & the auction dies a death early on.
Postage will be at an additional cost to the winner. It will be sent registered/insured post only.
Given this is a fundrasier, Ill request that the winner cover any paypal fees if paypal is being used to send payment.
All proceeds from this thread will be donated to the scholarship mentioned above, I'm gaining nothing out of this at all (the opposite in fact).
Bid as much as you like, just be sure you can afford it.
Please, please don't let me see this listed on ebay or something a few weeks after it is sold, it's for a good cause, so only genuine bidders only please.
The item is a US Nes console, (60Hz yay!)...signed & autographed by Bily, Jay & Melvore from The Game Chasers. Regina has kindly sent me two pictures of the guys holding the console (well, posing with it ) in order to prove its authenticity. These photo's will not be getting posted here or anywhere, they are for the winner bidder of the console only. This is to prevent any 'copycat' fake auctions being set up elsewhere, so again, please keep these pictures to yourself if you are the lucky winner.
The starting price will be €40, & I hope to see as many of you on the auction field of battle!
The console is on its way to me by now, I should have it in a week or two. The only pics I have of it are the ones Regina sent me, so I can't show pics of it here unfortunately. However, take it from me, as a fellow collector, it's the real deal & something I would really love to own myself. One final thanks to Regina, & Billy, Jay & Melvore...thanks for doing this, you have my sincere gratitude
I think that's it, if I remember anything else I'll update the post here...so just check back every so often incase I amend any of the rules etc. Happy bidding folks!
UPDATE - This is Jay's personal NES console, & one used to make a video on. See here
UPDATE 2 - All bid restrictions lifted, all I ask is that any further bids are €5 or more than the previous bid
Starting price of €40
Sorry for the loss, that's really heartbreaking stuff. Fantastic idea though, all the best with it
€50 bid from myself.
I hate bidding against you on your own item, but needs must, I don't have a US NES
Edit - woopsy, €90
