Does anyone know what causes mouth ulcers and how to get rid of them. I seem to get them when I eat anything with lemon or lime in it but again I can drink 7Up which is lemon and lime flavour and never get a mouth ulcer. It lasts a full week, causing agony and I find honey helps relieve it.
Does anyone have any quick home remedies for them.

Go to a doctor.

Could be lots of things.

Bongela helps.

I get them when I eat wheat or yeast.

I get them if I forgot to brush my teeth, if I am very run down, if I accidentally bite my lip while eating or ram my toothbrush into my gum too hard during brushing ( damn huge guns )

I don't get them as much as I used to when I ate a poor diet.

Bonjela Complete is the way to go.
A "Doctor" told me to rub salt into them - DO NOT DO THIS. I think some doctors think that because you are feeling pain you are doing some good. They didn't go away any faster when I did this and I was in agony !

yes they are the bain in my life, I have narrowed it down to lemon, which can be added into food all time especially if you go out for a meal, it can be in the main course or dessert, I dread ordering a fish and forget to tell the waiter "no Lemon", along comes the fish with a hot squishy lemon on it.

Mouth Ulcers are a funny one, there are a whole bunch of causes. Some are sporadic - no real cause, last 2-10 days and go away. Some are recurrent due to immune problems, some vitamine deficienties (rare) and other conditions. Best see a doctor and get bloods done if they are happening regurarly.

There are doctors who are also dentist called Oral Medicine specialists that deal with real problem one.

Basically avoid foods that aggravate them and use mouth washes to prevent secondary infection.

Good luck.

Only ever get them if I bit the inside of my mouth Normally I will get a dissolvable vitamin C tablet and hold it on the ulcer with my tongue until it completely dissolves. They can be really annoying if you are trying to brush your teeth so put some salt on it before hand, this will sting like fudge but then the mouth ulcer will be numb and wouldn't bother you.

In general I just take loads of Vit C, maybe it helps when applied topically maybe it doesn't but I never miss an opportunity to try and overdose on vit c.

Oh right.

Luckily i dont get them often, but when i do i simply put salt on them. Yes it'll sting the bejayzuz outta you, but its numbs the pain and also helps to dissenfect and kill any bacteria in/around the ulcer.

I think putting salt on them works in the same way a kick in the goolies works for a tooth ache. It will hurt so bad for a few minutes that the other pain won't seem so bad. Although I can see the anti bacterial properties of salt being of some use. I may be wrong but that's my ( very experienced ) opinion.

Bonjela Complete puts a coating on them numbing the pain. It wont last long but it allows you eat.

A number of factors lead to mouth ulcers including being run down etc.

I also found out that sometimes it can be caused by an active foaming agent in many toothpastes called Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. I now avoid toothpastes with that ingredient which has helped a lot.

After getting a really bad ulcer on my throat I was prescribed Adcortyl in Orabase, which was like a miracle cure. Unfortunately that product was discontinued. They may be similar products out there though.

Hydrogen Peroxide is also an excellent substance to put on mouth ulcers and cuts in general. Can buy it in the chemists. You want it to be around 3% and don't swallow it.

I have read before somewhere about certain toothpastes causing ulcers.

I used the get them when I was younger and it was generally when I was run down and my immune system was low they were kind of like a warning sign.
