Only in Ireland could posting a link cost a website €300.

Boards.ie Ltd and PIE Media Ltd. must be shi.tting themselves.

Here's the list of publishers:

Irish Independent
Irish Examiner
The Irish Times
Irish Daily Star
Evening Herald
The Sunday Independent
Sunday World
The Sunday Business Post
Irish Mail on Sunday
Irish Farmers Journal
Irish Daily Mail
Irish Daily Mirror
Irish Sun
Irish Sunday Mirror
The Sunday Times
Irish Sun Sunday

This half-finished site says it all:

If there is a follow through with that - there is going to be a MASSIVE drop in their readership of their sites.

HUGE!

Add to that, the adverts on their pages will get FAR less clicks!

Double loss...

If this comes to pass I will go onto the newspapers website, find the comment section and keep posting links. Links to competing newspapers. Boards.ie maybe too?

So then everyone will link to thejournal.ie instead, which rewrites most Newspaper stories just enough that there is no breach of Copyright.

No harm done.

Good luck to them invoicing boards for posting links.

Why don't they just set up a subscription model so that articles can't be linked.

Of course they should but they still don't understand the internet or more importantly, social media.
