Few suggestions;

Barley lake is at the top of mountain. Great for kids to discover. You can drive right to the top. Just beyond glengariff town.

Trip to garnish island from glengariff

Boat trip to whiffy island from bantry. Island is almost deserted and easy to walk around.

That should be Whiddy Island I think! There are a couple of other islands - Bere Island by ferry; Dursey Island by cable car. Dursey is further away from Bantry but the scenery around the Beara Peninsula is very nice and worth the drive. There is a nice little beach at Allihies and you can walk up to the disused copper mine buildings. Garnish Island is closed for the winter now according to its website. If you're into walking / cycling, Bantry is not too far from Gougane Barra Forest Park. Also, there is a 'green road' up part of Hungry Hill and nice views over Bere Island / Bantry Bay on a clear day. After the green road finishes you're into open mountain with small cairns / paint markings on the rocks so if fog comes down you'd want to be sure of navigation skills... There is walking around Sheep's Head as well. Depending on how much driving you want to do, you're about an hour and a quarter (says AA Routeplanner) from the Mizen Head. You'd need a clear day for views out to Fastnet lighthouse. Near the Mizen, there is a nice beach for a walk, Barley Cove. Also, the real most southerly point in Ireland... Brow Head. Depending on days of the week you are visiting, there might be whale-watching, kayaking trips but again might be a bit of a drive...
