We live in south Dublin and are looking for a venue for 18th birthday party between Xmas and New Year. Pubs are out as the decent ones check id, on entry, and not all his pals are 18 and the ones that do allow 18th's are dumps.
Any ideas would be very welcome
Not all the ' decent places ' check for ID. You could also check out about a closed bar? Like rent a nice place, and just have the bar closed for Alcohol?
wheren on the southside are u op?
Why not have it at home?
Somewhat more importantly why are you, as the parent, actively trying to find a licensed premesis that will fill him and his underage friends with booze? Height of irresponsibility that, regardless of whether or not you think it's justified through the typical Irish attitude that they all already drink themselves into a stupour on a weekly basis.
Everywhere worth going for a 18th will check for ID. The only places that wont as you said are dumps and not worth it. House parties are better anyway, cost less for the partygoers and you can pretty much guarntee the only people who will be there are your sons friends. Rent a Marquee and put it up in the garden, they'll all stay out there till you tell them to leave.
If that's no good to you I know Turkshead do 18ths and they'll let pretty much anyone in once some form of ID is shown. Problem there though the security is a joke, they've no problem acting like pricks yet they make no effort to control who comes into the party area.
+1 for local GAA club.
+1 for a house party.
Most places you ring up about an 18th will just flat out say no, so your options are to pretend to the venue it's not an 18th, and risk half of his mates not getting in, rent somewhere like a GAA club and have the party end disappointingly early, or have a house party.
Get a marquee if you want, or just clear out your biggest room a bit, sort out some proper speakers, ask your son if any of his mates fancy trying their hand at DJing (about a hundred will want to), and buy a few frozen pizzas. You don't even need to buy drink, it wouldn't be expected of you, although a case of Lidl low percentage bottles wouldn't go astray. It's a much safer way of having the 17 year olds drink then borrowing their sibling's passport and having free reign at a bar all night.
