Whats a SWIFT code? im trying to get money sent from a spanish a/c into my AIB account and they say they need a SWIFT code?
have a look on my statments and can find nothing of the sort =/
It won't be on your statements. It is a number that references the bank and branch internationally. AIBs is AIBKIE2D. It is likely you need more information that this for a transfer to be successful. Your branch code and account number at least!
Oh yeah, IBAN is the international bank account number. Here's an example from a made up account number in the AIB in Santry:
Allied Irish Bank Plc
Bank Sort Code: 93-22-21
Account Number: 12345678
Bank Swift Code: AIBKIE2D
IBAN: IE12 AIBK 9322 2112 345678
As you can see, the IBAN gives the whole lot in one string. Where do you get this information? Either make up the IBAN yourself from your own information or just pop into your branch and ask. They do this all the time...

Characters 3 & 4 (12 in the example cited) are check digits and have relevance. Your IBAN should be on your statement. The person you wish to send money to should advise their IBAN.
Do not compose either value yourself. It could lead to the payment being rejected and delayed in transit
