FreeCycle Groups - give and receive freely

In case any of you aren't familiar with FreeCycle groups, you can visit FreeCycle.org for a brief intro. The idea is basically that rather than simply throwing away stuff you no longer use, you check if someone else wants it first => people give away, and get stuff for free.

According to their website there are approx. 3000 groups worldwide, with over one-and-a-half million people. I'm not sure how reliable those figures are, but anyway....here' a list of FreeCycle groups in Ireland, in case any of ye are interested:If you know of any other freecycling groups in Ireland - even if they aren't explicitly affiliated with the 'FreeCycle Network', and even if they don't use the name 'FreeCycle' at all - please mention it.

Also, if there isn't a group in your area already, and you want to start your own one, there are clear instructions on how to do it on the FreeCycle Network homepage - it seems relatively easy. Obviously, you don't have to associate yourself with the FreeCycle Network at all; you could just set up a group and call it whatever you want.

Hope some of ye find this useful anyway ...

P.S. I put this in the 'Green Issues' forum because freecycling reduces the burden on waste management facilities ...very much so.

I have not used the "freecycle" group email in a year or so.
It involves receiving a huge number of unwanted emails.

I have used www.dublinwaste.ie and found it much less hassle and very effective.

Took a look at dublinwaste.ie but you have to post up your mobile number. No thanks.

Luckat,

I just re-checked www.dublinwaste.ie and it does NOT require your mobile number. This is an optional item.
I went as far as setting up a new account without a phone number.

...I seem to recall that the Leinster FREECYCLE was sub-divided into Dublin and non-Dublin. I.e. the original Leinster no longer exists.

You could also try the Freebies Ireland Website.

There are sometimes good reasons to dig up a year-old thread - pushing your own website isn't one of them.
