    Klopp is awesome.
Rodgers has been hard done by.
    Ancelotti wouldn't go near us.
    I love Stevie.
    FSG are useless.
Aubamayang, Benteke, Icardi, Lacazette and Clyne are joining for a combined £600m...

...basically what Sterling is looking for a week.

Have at it in your shiny new thread!

Vietto seems like a realistic option. Young, pretty unproven but would only cost about 14 M

    He sounds very.....eh, Italian.

    Edit: Argentinean, sign him up.

He wants to go to Atletico we aren't big enough to get him :(

Most players want to join clubs that are in the top 10/20 teams in the world not teams like us. :(

Interesting that Arsenal spent £35m less than LFC on transfers last 5 years but £70m more in wages.

Just saw this today. Just goes to show that wages are often forgotten about as people are often so obsessed with transfer fees paid.

As the man from Liverpool say.

I'm just getting really bored of the Rodgers debate.

Look, Rodgers is not a broken docket. He was manager as we came 2nd, when we came closer than we've ever come to a PL title. A lot was down to Suarez, but you can't completely negate Rodgers' input.

    He can clearly coach.

However, the crux of this whole Rodgers debate, IMO, centres around the concept of modern football, and how you see it.

IMO, football has moved on from the days when managers were afforded endless patience. It just doesn't work like that anymore. There are many who lament that fact, and really wish things were different. They hope things will change once time is given. They cite Shankly. They cite Ferguson. These instances are used as proof that if a manager gets time, then they will likely get it right eventually. It's flawed in a modern context.

Managers are paid millions a year, as are players. Owners invest millions, and millions are at stake. Not only are millions at stake, but prestige is priceless. Liverpool is lucky it has the history it does, but players largely don't give a shít anymore. Players and owners want money, trophies and Champions League. If you aren't winning trophies or attaining Champions League status, your stock falls quickly.

Managers simply can't be afforded the time they used to be when the stakes are so high. You do well, you get rewarded amazingly. If you don't do well, you pay for it with your job if there's a better option available. It's how things work now.

You either embrace it or get left behind.

If Klopp or Ancelotti are gettable, it'd be neglectful to not try. Proven winners must be pursued if we're to become winners. If nobody better than Rodgers is available or gettable, then obviously, by default, he should get another season.

But Rodgers knows the game he is part of. You can tell from his sheepish comments last week. He knows if better comes along, the owners are well within their rights to get rid of him.

    Go hard or go home.

Its less about Rodgers and more about who is available.

I think it also suggests that they've had a settled side of higher calibre to begin with.

If you're already a good side, it stands to reason you don't need to spend as much.

It'd be interesting to see the turnover of players compared between the two clubs.

We've had about 20 in and out or whatever - we've binned a legion of absolutely useless players; wheras they built a good young side and have been tending it while they (Ramsey, Walcott, Wilshere and so forth, to varying degrees and at various times over the past 5 years) took out the pruning shears for what they already had and added giant marble center-pieces, like Sanchez and Ozil, to bring the whole thing together.

I don't think they're really playing a different game to us. They're just half a decade further down the road, both in terms of squad but also with the stadium and the general CL stability of the club.

They've gotten to the stage where they're genuinely only 1 or 2 players short of a serious title challenge.

I'm not usually a fan of Lawrenson but he got this right
Liverpool FC wimped out and I wouldn't back them in a fight, says Mark Lawrenson

We just limped out of the season.

And the great worry for me remains the character of the team.

We had three matches against awkward opponents in Hull City, Crystal Palace and Stoke.

They aren’t the best teams in terms of quality.

But they are strong. And we wimped out.

All three knew that if you get stuck into this Liverpool team, you’re going to have a lot of joy.

We can play our football against every team in the country. But we clearly can’t fight against any of them.

We lost Jamie Carragher. We lost Luis Suarez. Now we have lost Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool need players who are going to stand up and scrap it out when they aren’t playing well.

Chelsea have loads of talent and they don’t mind fighting for the right to play.

Benteke? Take his release value and Johnson's wages and go get Higuain imo. Be aggressive.

£120k a week is €170k a week there are very few players in continental European clubs getting that that kind of money.

Even Bayern refuse to pay that kind of money the told Kroos to got to Madrid if he wanted that kind of money.

    Yea and he left..........................

Listen I have one issue with something that keeps popping up on here.

A lot say "look at United last season" "lets just pay what ever they want and we can bring in top class players"

The problem with these statements and every statement like those is, the players that come for money will leave because of money. They will also go missing when the club is going through a tough time and they wont give two sh*ts about the fans when they are having an off night and decide that they dont wanna play.

DiMaria Falcao Ozil are 3 players who fit this bill. Not trying to pick on Arsenal or United by the way as they are more successful than us right now.

DiMaria was only in the door at United and he was on about playing for PSG. Falcao moved to Monaco................... Ozil was forced to leave Madrid and despite a great start to his Arsenal life he gave up after 2 months (he has played well recently by the way).

There are loads of "mercenaries" out there. Where was loyalty when RVP decided to go to United? How about Torres to Chelsea? Owen to United?

My point is that yes we could go down the road of hiring these mercenaries who will come in and do a job for us. But if things get tough they will be the first to kick up a fuss and leave!

Sterling is a great young talent. But he is influenced by money so not caring about the club he wants to leave.

Ibe loves the club (proving they dont have to be local to be loyal) and wants to stay even though he is a young talent whop would get a move if he wanted. Not to a top 4 side yet but he doesnt seem like he wants to flirt with our rivals unlike Sterling.

Hendo, Lucas, Skrtel have all showed loyaty to the club. Players who would put their careers on the line for the club. Players who will fight to win games regardless of being "world class" or "out of their depth" at times.

    We need loyalty. Not mercenaries.

Mercenaries WILL leave when a better offer comes along ie: Suarez!!

So whats the point in even targeting them in the first place?

Coutinho seems loyal and he isnt exactly sh*t

Don't forget about tax. There are no players in Spain losing 50% of their income like they would in England...
