New York Accomodation

Myself and a few lads are thinking about heading to New York around October/November, any idea of some good accommodation?

We were hoping of getting an apartment, Any idea of good areas to stay that are close to lively bars and also pretty central. I have no idea about NYC at all so any help is appreciated!

Whats your Budget?
How long for?
Where you want to stay?
Are you willing to travel a bit?
How fancy you looking for?

rough dates?

I was thinking around 1,500 to 2,500 per week.

Staying for around a week.

Not sure on where we want to stay, near Times Square would be nice. I think that's the Manhattan area.

Not to keen on travelling too far.

Low to Medium on the fancy scale.

Last week of October to the first week of November.

Look at the all suite hotel like Embassy Suites or Doubletree by Hilton. Also worth checking out are the Radio City Apartments, though they tend to book out early.

Avoid apartment listings on things like Craigslist, short term letting of residential property is illegal in NYC and there have been plenty of horror stories on online fora about what happens when people take this option.

If you could at all, I'd recommend you go for Thanksgiving, which is Nov 22 this year.

At the moment, you can get flights from Monday 19th to 26th of November for 420 with ebookers, direct flights from Dublin.

Accommodation not bad - booking.com has lots of options, can get 2 double beds in Milford Plaza, very close to Times Square for €1335

or a 1 bed apt for 4 at Residences at 51st Street and 7th Avenue for €1670.

Having been to New York a few times, Thanksgiving last year was my best visit. Yes the place is busy, but the atmosphere is amazing. You have the Macys parade on Thanksgiving and then your there for Black Friday, the following day, which has the most amazing sales.

Shops opened at midnight last year, and all the big stores like American Eagle and Abercrombie had 50% off everything until 9am, some amazing bargains.
