The 16 rolls date back to Christmas and a bit before - no quiet time to devote to a dev session until this week. It's all cheap (and nasty) 35mm - €1 per roll from German drugstores.

The "weird looking stuff" was taken on a Sprocket Rocket - I saw someone here post some pics, and they looked cool. I got one, and then discovered my all-in-one MFP had a really crap scanner. Need to get the V500!

Anyway, I was quite unsure of the winding mechanism on the Sprocket Rocket, and I've been skipping frames as a result. If I'd bothered to do a dev run earlier in the year, I'd have discovered my mistake. You live and learn. (To be discussed in the pub tonight with a friend).

We must be way off topic at this point.

Mr Galway - really C41 is easy at home. I took over the bath for about three hours on Monday night. You see the results. As mentioned on another thread, I use a small windowless cupboard to load the tanks. In the batchroom, I have a Woodies plastic box in the bath with water in it about 40 degress as my buffer and the source of my washing water, and a second one with water about 45 degress, where I keep the chemicals warm. It's no where near tightly controlled, +/- 2 or even 3 degress, and I get away with it. I use a Jessops colour thermometer I've had for a decade or so. Darkroom timer app on my Android phone.

OK I'll stop now

Yes, yes you will.

No, I hear you, and I do intend to start developing myself at some point, but like I said I don't have the time or space to devote to it right now. I don't really like surrendering control of the development process to somebody else, but for now I don't really have a choice.

You can expect a thread looking for advice on home development at some point in the future...

By the way, I happen to have a roll of Portra 400 (120 format) lying around which I don't need. If anybody is interested in a swap, or knows of anybody who might be interested, send me a PM.

I'll swap for a 35mm Portra (any kind except NC).

Hi, i found this post because I am also looking for a cheap place to develop and scan films, I have just moved here in Dublin. I am asking in shops in the city centre but they are all quite expensive.

Is it still possible to develop and scan in this place in Northside, I am planning to go there these days. Would be great. Is someone still going there?

What happen if I go with only 2 films to scan? Is it still cheap?

Vincent

Yes, it is. But i's not called Unicare anymore. Doc Marten Pharmacy or something.

Coolock is a bit of a trek though. They'll probably put two rolls on a cd for 5-10 euro.

I haven't been out there in a while, though, so I can't guarantee that the mysterious Dave is still doing his special offer.

Thank you for your answer. I've not checked yet how to go there from here D2. I'll see if it's better to wait and go with more films. Anyway i'll ask for the price before, in case mysterious Dave has changed his mind

Do they do also 120 films?

Thanks again

You take the 27 or 27a from the quays, near the SIPTU tower.

I'm only just venturing into 120 myself so I don't know if they develop that. Let me know if they do though. Might come in useful.

Btw, keep in mind that they only develop c41 film in these pharmacy labs. If you're shooting anything else you'll have to take it elsewhere.

For medium format I was planning on shooting only in b&w and developing it at home.

The cheapest option is with 5 films on 1 cd. They don't do 120 but had talked about it. I doubt it will come through though. If you are calling to ask about it make sure to speak to either Dave or John.

Thank you very much for all these useful information amdgilmore and effects.
I'll write here again when I go there, I don't need now to develop 120 mm but I will in the next weeks. I will ask them if it's possible.

I've never tryed to develop by myself but it's a thing that I'd like to do one day. At home in italy I usually
develop in a lab for about 3 euro each roll (both 35 and 120) than I scan by myself with a flatbed scanner.
Anyway 5 films developed and scanned for 15 euro is really a good price, I hope is still possible.

I'll let you know.

Thank you again.

I used to dev my own colour but it was just easier to get it done in unicare/doc martens. These days I shoot a lot of 120 colour so it takes me longer to get 5 rolls of 35mm together. Some nice surprises of stuff I forget about when I get a roll back.

I dropped in a roll of 35mm today at north side after seeing this post, John was there today, I got dev, scan and 7x5 prints done as I wanted to see what the quality was like. Cost me a tenner but as previous poster said if you can go in with five rolls, you get dev and scans for fifteen euro and that's hard to beat.
The scans aren't huge, open up to 6.5 meg in photoshop but they are fine. I will be back.

I went yesterday with 5 rolls. John was there, really nice person. He explained me a lot of things but unfortunately I couldn't get all because sometimes he was too fast for my level of english By the way he confirmed that they don't do 120 film anymore. so it's official.

Scans are ok for the use i do (web and flickr). The only problem is that only 3 of the films are scanned well. But this was my fault and not john's.

He couldn't scan a film that I put in my holga 120G (because of the photos that go also on the sprocket holes).

Another film wasn't scanned properly because the photos were smaller and not regular. It was a roll that i shot using a pinhole.

I think there's no way for me to scan this two kind of films till i will buy a flatbed scanner. That's a pity because I'm currently using these two cameras.

The only solution is to ask someone that has a scanner at home.

So if there's someone that usually do this kind of works (pinhole and sprocket hole photo) and would be so kind to help me can contact me here or at this address malevolia(at)hotmail(dot)com

thanks to all of you for the answers
