Ok, I'm 50+, but that doesn't mean I want to be consigned to black and blue for the rest of my life ....

I find it so frustrating when I go shopping for some sports jackets (semi formal jackets) and trousers. It's all black, dark blue, beige, grey ...... oye oye oye ... it's SO depressing !

I spent a few hours today all over Grafton street to henry street and it's same same same same .... except once in a while one shop has something the total opposite, a token attack on the senses... in stripes or something.

I know in Europe there are lots of men wearing great colours. Is there ANYwhere in Dublin to get some ?

Did you try Tommy Hilfiger on Grafton Street or Ground Floor menswear on Arnotts. They have lots of current and dare I say, age appropriate styles in a variety of colours. Even if you choose a subtle coloured blazer or trousers in the aforementioned tamer colours, you could set it off with a brighter or more adventurous coloured shirt.

Sometimes TK Maxx have unusual jackets. But it's very hit or miss. I buy in there for my brother who is a very 'off-beat but smart' dresser and I can get some very unusual stuff. It just depends on the stock when you visit. To be fair, I keep an eye out there all year round for him and pounce on the treasures when I find them. Then I have them for his birthday/Christmas without a panicked search. Anyway, just a thought for you to be going on with!

I've been in TK repeatedly for months and nothing.

Irish men must be some of the most conservative and boring in Europe. The sight in every single mens shop of rows and rows of grey, black, dark blue and beige is enough to make you weep.

Marks and Spencer often have "summer" blazers that are stripey, or white, or different colours. It depends on what colours you want to wear. Pink? Yellow? Light blue? I'd say some of the Italian designers might have something like this (try Zegna).

Thanks for your input :-) But even pretty green is dominated by colour neutral stuff. a stripe is not colour...
I am not sure dressing smart or retro mod is what I am looking for ... I know I am repeating myself but I am looking for colour and of course I have to say I am not made of money. I can't pay for designer products.

What is it about colour that seems to frighten Irish men ? I know there is more life in shirt colours these days and ties, but nothing is happening in jackets

The only nation that is really partial to some light yellow jackets and similar are or were (Northern) Germans and I'm not sure I'd go for that look. At the moment male fashion is all about mute colors and I don't think you will get much more color in other countries. Pal Zileri has some in the collection but I don't know where if any where in IReland they are sold.

Zara has some Pink and light blue but I've heard some criticism of their quality.

analucija - I'm no fashion guru ... but I don't believe you are correct in that. Anytime I have been in London, Paris or Spain I see lots of men wearing bright coloured jackets and trousers.

Sports jackets. light but gentle colours like some kind of light yellow or a light sky blue, a mauve, a light burnt orange .... a light green. etc etc etc ... just off the top of my head.

Topman have a light blue blazer, along with some other colours. You might also want to try vintage shops in Dublin, I've definitely seen some brightly coloured men's clothing there.

Interesting ... I guess that I am guilty of not looking in the smaller boutique places where I feel they are aimed at the much much younger market I will try to venture in next time .....
