Im looking to buy a small diesel car year around 2005/2006 for a family member… someone told me to stay clear of the 1.3 cdti corsa as engine gives huge trouble on them so I im looking at something like an ford fiesta 1.4tdci and I like the looks of the Suzuki swift 1.3ddis.
What you think of these or would there be a better small diesel car out there to buy as need something that very easy on fuel.

Yeah, they're the same engine....

Nothing wrong with them btw, down to the people that own them don't know how to look after them properly

There is something to note with that 1.3 diesel engine. The service intervals in Opels are much longer than marques (Fiat and Suzuki in particular) and this in part might explain why there are more issues expierienced in the Opels than others. If I were offered that engine in a Fiat and it had a documented history, I'd consider it.

The 1.4Tdci in the Ford again is ok PROVIDED it has been serviced regularly and taken care of. And that folks, is something most Irish folk don't to very well with their motors, especially as they get older.

Its been done a million times but what sort of mileage will they be doing?

You don't buy small diesels(or any diesel) for city only driving or school/shop runs.

The Fiat 1.3 diesel in the corsa/swift/various fiats is a good reliable motor once used and maintained properly.

Renault have a 1.5Dci engine in some of their motors. I don't know too much about the new megane or the laguna but I've driven it in a Kangoo van and its a great little engine.

I presume its in Nissans too.

A Fiat Grand Punto 1.3 Multi-jet (same car as the Corsa D) is worth looking at.

great engine if the body its in is light.

would love the small body megane imo... maybe in a clio ?? ( but tax vairys on them as they began to go greener and greener afair )

No. You're pretty unlikely to see those figures out of a diesel unless you're a hypermiling granny.

In other news, 20,000 miles a year is definitely diesel territory, how about a Clio, or a left-filed Modus?

doesnt the 1.5 dci give lots of trouble with engine and breaking timing belts? even when serviced well. it what i heard ...
ok so an well serviced corsa or swift 1.3 diesel would be a better buy than the 1.4tdci fiesta,
really like the look of the 207 but again think its the same engine as the fiesta

It would likely be possible to get 60mpg, but that would be much more down to the driver then the engine.
