Poor Laptop Performance

About six months ago I bought a Samsung S3520 laptop expecting it to be a very decent affordable laptop. However, I have been disappointed with its overall general performance. It is very slow opening/closing programmes and slow doing everything basically. It is not super slow, just slow considering it's spec. I have had laptops with lesser specifications which performed better. Is there any customising I can do in order to improve performance? The spec. is as follows: Intel Core i3-2310m 2.10Ghz, 6G RAM, 64 bit operating system with Win 7.
Should I be getting decent performance with this spec. or is it a case that something on the laptop or its settings are causing it?

Yes you should. Check what programs run at startup. There's probably a tonne of stuff running that you don't want or need.

If your unsure about disabling processes there's a handy little program called gamebooster. http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

The program has a big red button that shuts down the processes that you don't need, and its easy to change what it switches off and don't let the name fool you, you don't have to play games to use it.

Shut down the laptop completely, then turn it back on and wait for it to load your desktop fully.

Don't open any programs, right click on the bar at the bottom of the desktop and click on task manager.

Click on the processes tab, post whatever figures your getting for total process,CPU and RAM usage here.

Also if possible where you see the list of processes click on the memory tab to rank them by most usage and take a screenshot, which you can upload to tinypic and then post here.

Also how slow exactly is slow? How long to boot from shut down? How long to open specific programs?

If you buy an ssd . Crucial M4 are very Good .Check feed back on New egg . com . 450 people have given It 5 stars .
You will see vast improvement . office and win 7 64 need 35 gigs .
If you do buy it . Buy the cloneing software and cable with it .
Then reset to original factory settings and clone hd .
I bought 64 as It was 120 euro 18 months ago.
But now I would get 128 as now low as 115 euro .
Well worth it imo .
windows loads in 30 sec .

Jaafa,
the total procceses fluctuated a lot but were around 91% for total process, cpu 34%, physical memory 28%.
where i find it really slow is when i am switching tabs in chrome/firefox (both up-to-date) and opening and closing programes

would i be right in thinking that most of the others are just really automatic updates or the like and really aren't needed? are they supplimentary to their actual programe, eg kies which is for my moible phone?

Yes. They're all either updates or they help the program to start quicker if you use it (plug in a device and program auto starts etc...). They're not essential.
