My four year old MBP has suddenly started having issues connecting to my home network, after being rock solid for four years. It can see the network, the password is correct but it keeps saying 'Connection Failed' when I try to connect.

The other issue is that the Wireless signal icon in the finder task bar has disappeared! The battery level icon is present, bluetooth icon is present and time machine icon but the wireless one just disappeared today!

My iPad connects without a hitch, my Sony Vaio connects without a hitch and one other MBP in the house connects without a problem too. Any recommendations or suggestions welcome.

You can get the WiFi menu back in System Prefs > Network > Show WiFi status, etc. You probably lost it as a result of command-dragging it off the menubar.

While you're in there, try deleting the WiFi/Airport network connection from the sidebar using the minus button, then recreate it using the plus button and try re-entering your network settings and connecting again.

I assume you've tried restarting the Mac and the router, yeah?

Restarted router and Mac, updated router firmware, the whole lot. Weirdly, it just reconnected itself there as I was looking through my settings. I'll keep an eye on it...
