No. Course is nowhere near as good as the Palmer and also not as well maintained. much better value out there for 50e

Played it for 1st time about 4 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. It is a fantastic course, and was very well maintained when we played it.
One of the best courses I have played, great challenge and very strong finishing holes..

Smurfit bashing is a strange but popular habit on boards golf.

I don't get it. It's not in the very highest echelon, but nor is it far away.

If it wasn't associated with the K Club brand I reckon it would be much higher rated by its detractors.

Smurfit is an excellent course. It's pricy at EUR50 but that's cheaper than it used to be at EUR60 and often more. It's definitely got a wow factor with some terrific holes like the 7th, I think it is, the long par-5 with the famous man made quarry down the right. Short dog leg par-4 early on is a great hole too (slippery green) and of course the 18th where you cross the water twice, if you hit it well enough.

Only thing that pissed me off was the day I played there they told us at the last minute that there was placing on the fairways. Now it was a Junior scratch in the height of summer, perfect conditions and they decide to make it a non counting event just to protect the fairways. Well that's how I interpreted it anyway. Bit annoying considering the entry fee but only a small gripe I suppose.

After playing Mount Wolseley saturday and Smurfit a few weeks ago, I'd take Mount Wolseley over it anyday.

However, its worth playing the Smurfit course if you never played it before.

It's still a qualifying competition with placing on the fairways only

I'd recommend the Smurfit and I'd take it over the Palmer. Smurfit has the nice linksy look. Played it over two years ago or so, think it cost €60. Got a free book, sausage roll with a hot drink and unlimited range balls which were waiting on the range in that nice little pryamid, had a great day out there.

Yikes! Well must have been placing in rough also then, whatever level of placing it was that day it made it a non counting comp.

Main point was that it was unnecessary in middle of summer other than to simply protect fairways.
