Which of these computer packages would you buy?

1. Suunto Vyper Air Wrist - no transmitter: $450 (€340).

2. Suunto Vyper Air Wrist with Transmitter: $740 (€567).

3. Suunto HelO2 Wrist with transmitter - Demo model: $775 (€586)

4. Suunto HelO2 Wrist with transmitter - new in box: $899 (€680).

Long term, most of my diving will be in Ireland, with some trips abroad. Not sure yet if I want to Tech dive.

Thanks.

I have the suunto vyper without the transmitter. So do a few of the lads I dive with. It does everything I need. I bought it here.

I wouldn't bother with the transmitters if i were you, Id use a slate, depth gauge and timer and work it out your sac rate the old fashioned way.

RE: the computer, I would plan using v-planner and dive with slates and a timer but the Vyper Air would be a good back up as you can have up to 3 nitrox mixes, one up to 100% 02.

You wont have a need for helium yet and when you do I think the OSTC 2N (approx 770 Eur) is a much better option for trimix diving with much more bang for your buck then the Hel02.

Thanks for the replies.

I like the idea of using a transmitter as a backup to my gauges (might as well use both HP ports on my first stage). I tend to be paranoid, so it's good to have two instruments for reading depth and air.

I'd agree with loosing the transmitter....
How often have you heard of guages failing to work? Granted I've seen HP hoses go, but not even a transmitter will help with that.

Vyper is a good choice though.

I'd recommend the Vyper Air without the transmitter. Or if you're not going to be gas switching mid-dive then the standard Vyper.

I had a Vyper and now use an Uwatec Aladin Tec 2G - it allows you to change to a deco gas. It's a very good value computer. Another plus for me is it counts down your stops in seconds rather than full minutes, much prefer that.

I see Suunto will be in Scuba Dive West next weekend if you want to try out any of the computers on your list...
