It's always been firm and smooth underfoot if not always dry:-)

Hey guys, first time taking part in this event and I'm doing the 50km.

Whats the deal with the loop, can I just leave gels etc at the loop start point and get them as I loop around or whats the situation?

hello

Hi Everybody,

I am relaxing in France before the storm next week..... I will hop to send an email to all participants then.

Watched a very interesting ultra race in France which I would like to replicate and had a good chat with the race director here.

Talk to you soon and I will reply all queries by email in the next two days, once my legs recover from my 30km off road run and real rock climbing

Seb

Hi Seb,

Not sure of you are still taking requests for music on the day, but if you are here are my suggestions:

Mr. November - The National
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
State of Love and Trust - Pearl Jam
Float On - Modest Mouse
We Found Love - Rihana (My other half requested that, I swear!!!)

No worries if the play list is finalised.

I'm also hoping to pick up my marathon registration next Saturday morning if that is okay? I have emailed info@sportsireland.ie as well as you are out of the country.

Thanks,
Dev

Hi Seb,

Just wondering if there is a restriction on size for the ultra table bag (box??). Basically I was hoping to leave a lunchbox with a distinctive pink lid (about 6" x 6"). The website states the following;

'All personal food and beverages must be placed in bags clearly marked with the competitor’s name and race number, and handed to designated race official at the refreshment table at the start line before the race begins.'

Would I get away with the lunchbox?

Cheers,

Bugsy

Hi guys,

back last night.....

dev123 : I did not do the music list but will do during the week when relaxing in the evening. Registration on the morning is fine 1h before each events and 30min before the 100k..... I think we can manage 20 People.

Bugsy2000 : Good query ! The info was from the IAU guideline, but since I removed my application 2 or 3 weeks ago for this year it does not brake any AAI or AIMS rules so feel free to do so. But I will finalise this point if I apply next year to the IAU again.

I have been preparing for this marathon as my first marathon since January.. Unfortunately i have had a setback in the last few weeks with a hamstring pull in my right leg. I Haven't given up totally yet , thursday will be my final decision day.. I have been doing some light running and stretching since.. Am I mad to be even thinking about running this?
Anyway my original question is If i pull out do I have to "unregister" somewhere? Or will just not turning up suffice?

Gudpony - sorry to hear you've hit problems. All I can advise is to get a good 'running' physio to have a look at it. A little outside independent advice is often what we need.

Looking forward to next weekend with just a little trepidation. Over many years of running the only two races that I've ever failed to finish were both forrest 50kms, the 50km here last year and the 50km in Donadea earlier this year. In the case of Portumna I ended up in the meat-waggon and still can't remember part of that day - dehydration and tiredness after a transatlantic flight the day before were the obvious culprits.

Donadea is more of a mystery to me. Felt ok going in but, in retrospect I was probably quite sleep deprived then as well after a particularly busy spell at work. As excuses go however, it's not a great one for the rubbish race I ran.

Was originally going to try the 100km here but have asked Seb if I can drop back to the 50km, partly to try and shake off my disastrous streak of failed 50kms and partly because the recovery needed after a 100km would eat into training time for the Connemara 100 miler in August.

Fingers crossed

Good reason why sleep deprivation is used as a torture method. I'll be on the start line Saturday after a year of sleepless nights. Just hoping to finish. Really looking forward to it. Ticks the triad of great race, great location & great people.

Were you in Antibes? I was there crewing for Anthony Lee in the 48 hour race. Pity I missed you, would have been good to have a chat. Cant believe you missed the Donedea Tee Shirts on the course and the big Irish flag in the camp site The event next year looks savage. Think there's about 10 Ultra events planned for next year, very tempted.
