Hello,Im a leveing cert student who is considering my options for third level.

Im Interested in I.A.D.T and have gone to the open day,the last two years and like the collage.However I would like to know what other students think of the collage.

Also im Interested in model making design and digital effects,if there any students who are in this course,or know anyone in it,could you tell me if its a good course,what do you think of it?

My second choice is animation,anyone who does animation,what is the course like?Also ballyfermont vs IADT animation?since I applied to both.

Im also considering the Multimedia systems and web engineering,if I do not get into an art course(or if I do not think there will be enough work in them) what is the level of maths like on this course?Is it a good course?

Also who has gotten work out of any of these courses?How many?what are they doing etc.

hey
im in viscom (visual communication design) in iadt it also requires a portfolio, if your into art,design,drawing,computers and making things with your hands i would defiantly recommend it, everyone thinks you need to no loads about computers to do it but the truth is you barley touch a mac in first year and your tough how to do it all, all are work in first year is relay hands on making posters/book covers/simple animations/board games that sort of thin then in second year you move on to websites and more advanced photoshop work but its still relay hands on if you want to make things by hand. just thought id let you no in case you were unaware of the corse

as for the college its grate in the art side there's allays cool things left lying in the halls like the giant elephant bike that was round for a while, you get to meet loads of relay talented people (classmates) and its just good crack not having to sit in a lecture hall, instead we can walk around the studio and have a laugh wile still working. as for socialising rag week is mad cool bands playing in the college every night and after party's and random house party's, theres loads of other balls and events scarterd throughout the year,

anything else you would like to no from an art student that's been here 2 years?

if your on about my spelling im dyslexic and do my best, i don't think it was that hard to understand anything i said.

if you think what im saying is true, that was all my opinion and view of iadt you may think differently.

Thanks for the info on DL043 Lash_Alert, But i decided I wouldent go for it in the open day because of how design orientated it was.I would prefere to do animation or model making and digital design because they seem to have more digital subjects, which is the area I want to work in.

no bother at all viscom dose move into more digital at the end of 2nd year but they like to start you off practical so you get an eye for detail an the basics.

portfolio assessments are next week arnt they? good look im sure youl love iadt

Hard to sum up Animation in one comment - I was originally torn between Model Making and Animation too when I applied two years ago. After the portfolio assessments and interviews I decided on Animation, because I got a really good impression from my interview and it seemed more challenging to me. My friend and housemate does model making and she loves it - it seems like a nice mixture of hands on and digital and everyone I've met who does it really loves it so i'm sure if you end up going for it you'll enjoy it.

Animation is a really mixed course - so much variety and room to learn new things. First year is a mix of principles, design, life drawing, digital, academics, experimental animation, production (aka. layouts) and personal project. They really throw everything at you in the hopes that you'll find some area that you're really interested in. I'm not going to lie, the workload can get heavy at times but if you love it it's so so rewarding. As far as second, third, fourth year is concerned you get to specialise a lot more (and you get introduced to SFX/3D programmes) and the lecturers tend to give you a lot more freedom the further along you progress. (The lecturers themselves almost make the course worthwhile, they're hilarious and really helpful) It's a really good industry to get into right now, there's a huge market for animation and a lot of graduates get hired straight out of college by studios like boulder, brown bag etc. I obviously recommend it a lot - but i'd say you'd be best off talking with a model making student too to weigh out your options fairly.

Thanks for the info.It sounds like I thought it would be, enjoyable but hard work.I think I would like somthing like that.I think I will still go for the model making, design and digital effects though,I was always just more drawn to that course and I like its derversity.Like you said too,everyone I have talked to who is doing it,really enjoys it.

I submitted my portfolio today, so hopefully I will get a course, either one I would be happy with. I dident get into ballyfermont,

.So that option is gone.I got into the 3 year animation course in colaiste dhulaigh, but two people now have told me this is a really bad course...? Does anyone know anyone who did this one?
