Hosting (wordpress) setting up

Hi, Im new to wordpress and want to learn it for myself by making a portfolio website, but im having trouble setting it up, is it better to work offline such xammp of i was thinking about buying a domain name and work online???

also what hosting company would be good to work off if i did work online, i have been looking up Blacknight for a cheap domain name it only cost like € 7.99, but it does not say how much space i have to upload and all that.

Im fairly new to all this but would like to learn about it, so any tips would be great.

Thanks

Please read the charter regarding the recommendation and discussion of individual hosting providers.

Using xAMP is a good way to start off when you're learning - it costs zero.

We can't discuss specifics of which hosting company, but a small WordPress site can be hosted by almost any entry level hosting account (the exception being some where they don't provide MySQL access).

Confirm with the hosting company that they support PHP v5.2.4 and MySQL v5.0 or greater before you sign up.

Don't Wordpress themselves provide a hosting option?

WordPress.com is a place you can host a WordPress site but it has a significant number of limitations. WordPress.org is where you can download the source code to do your own installation of WordPress.

Is XAMPP working correctly? Can you see the web site? Can you get into phpMyAdmin?

There's a fairly significant Cloud hosting provider named after a South American river where you can avail of a years free hosting that would be more than adequate for the solution you're looking for.

If you'd like more info, PM me.

You have to install xamp, there is a guide here -

http://sawmac.com/xampp/

then Wordpress -

http://webdesignerwall.com/tutorials...dpress-locally

Just take it slowly, step-by-step, and you'll get it.

XAMPP and IIS are clashing.
IIS is a web server from Microsoft. XAMPP includes the Apache web server.
I suggest uninstalling IIS or at least turning it off.
