Plus I think it is pretty rude and and distasteful to post such accusations on an online forum at all, and especially in a thread where many people say they have met their partners online.

You have listed 2 scenarios where you and a friend had bad experiences. But both of these could have happened had you met the guy in real life and not online. I really do think your point is moot, based on one bad experience you have had. Have you not read all the good experiences written on this thread?

People need to careful with dating in general, no matter where you meet the person. But I totally disagree that online dating attracts more deceit and pretense.
Point 1. I already apologised if I offended anyone by what I said but as I already admitted I am biased on the issue and will not be censored on my opinion. At least I'm honest about what I think and don't always try to appease the PC brigade...

--> Clearly you are part of that brigade so I'm not going to disagree anymore with you on this since I'll just get quoted a part of the charter rather than having an open discussion.

Point 2. You are clearly biased yourself due to your own positive experience so you cannot hold it against me if I am biased based on mine.

Point 3. People on Internet forums make blanket statements all the time. Just go to After Hours and check out all the raging sexism there.

Point 4. Rude and distasteful, ey? Weren't you the very one arguing for giving people a chance online? How is the sticking to your own principles going for you?

And don't worry, I won't post anything else "distasteful" on here...

Roadtrippin can we please dial it back a bit? "Mild stereotyping" is cool and the gang, but there is a line and it's all too easy to cross it. Discussion from personal experience is welcome, but so is objectivity and acknowledging the experiences of others, be they positive or negative.
