My satellite bb with OnWave under the NBS has been very slow recently. When I spoke to OnWave they said this was due to contention which is higher in the evening. Is this possible with satellite?

Also, what are the minimum speeds I'm entitled to with satellite on the NBS?

A quick perusal of DCENR's website shows the following info on NBS satellite:

"In recognition of the fact that some areas are very costly and difficult to reach, in a very limited number of cases, 3 makes available a satellite product of 1Mbps download and 128kbps upload, as summarised below."

I have used the Tooway Ku-Band system extensively in the past - this is the system for the NBS, not the newer KA-Band. In that time I never experienced noticeable contention.

The chances are you have hit one of the horrendously low caps and have been throttled until your usage subsides. They sell the system as having 11 GB traffic per month, but further analysis by other boardies and me fein has discovered the most you can possibly use in a month is 6 GB, due to the hourly, four hourly, daily and weekly traffic caps you also have to abide by.

I wouldn't bother complaining - the Department blame 3, 3 blame Eutelsat!
